Charge blade is versatile weapon which not only allows for dealing large amounts of damage with its Axe mode but also you can block attacks with you sword and shield. Important thing to now with charge blade is that its shield is somewhere in the middle of all weapons which can have shields (this includes, lance, gunlance, etc.). However, as you can block many attacks and by some of them you can get huge staggers, there are special attacks which are non-defendable.

But there is a skill for those attacks and it is called Guard Up. It allows to block some of the unblock-able attacks. I am saying some as Savage Devilhjo pin still hits through even with this skill.

However, as I have played with charge blade for 400 hours, I haven't personally used this skill too much. The only times I used was in normal Monster Hunter World, when spamming SAED, so that I would not miss a chance to use it against Teostra Super Nova.
