Guide Index Overview Recording Viewing Comments Recording There are two ways of recording demos, you can either manually start a recording, or have it set to record demos automatically.MANUAL RECORDING:-This will record your gameplay for one session.First off, you must already be in a game (i.e. not on the menu screen.), then open your console and type:record [demoname] Replace [demoname] with whatever you want your demo file to be called. To stop the recording, either leave to the menu screen or, in your console type:stop AUTOMATIC RECORDING:-This will automatically record all your gameplay for you, so you can review it later.Go to your Advanced options, and scroll to the bottom, there you should see these options:To automatically record your gameplay, have the Recording Mode set to 'Auto-Record All Matches'.You can make TF2 log your Killstreaks, and set a minimum killstreak before it starts logging them using the 'Min Killstreak Count' option.-You can also log an 'event' by typing in the console:ds_mark [comment] Which will log the current time in the demo along with your comment. I would suggest binding a key to this command so that if something cool happens, you can simply press a key and review that part of the demo later, without having to fast forward through all the rest of your gameplay.bind "p" "ds_mark EVENT" you can change out p and EVENT with other options. Viewing LOCATION/NOTESBy default your automatically recorded demos will be saved in:C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\demos Each .dem file will be saved with a .json, which will be the log of your killstreaks and/or logged events. You may also notice that i have a prefix on all of my demos saying 'Bizink'. You can set this in the advanced options under 'Filename Prefix'Upon opening the .json it should look something like this:As you can see, this one shows that I got an 8 killstreak at 121463 ticks(frames), and a 6 killstreak later on. You can use the Tick values to jump to places in your demo.VIEWING YOUR DEMODemos are loaded using the Demo UI, this can be loaded by either pressing Shift+F2, or typing in the console:demoui This is what the UI should look like:To load a demo, click Load, and navigate to your demos folder (Team Fortress 2\tf\demos), then select the demo you want to view.Click Play to play your demo, you can adjust the Time slider to alter the playback speed, from 0% to 600%. If you want to jump to a certain point in your demo, type the tick value in the box, then click Goto. This will play through your demo at a very high speed up to that tick, and then pause it until you press resume.NOTE: Using Goto with high tick values(like if your demo is 30 mins long and you want to jump to somewhere near the end), may result in TF2 crashing. To fix this, go to options>video>advanced and set Multicore Rendering to Disabled.Hopefully This will have given you an idea on how to record and view demos! If you have any questions i'll be happy to answer in the comments. 76 Comments < > TheLorisCrak 13 Feb @ 11:55am how i make a frag movie in a cinematic way? or in 3rd person/spectator free camera view? bulkmoerls 18 Nov, 2024 @ 3:01pm @bario what??? since when tf2 has a port of PSVita??
