Hammer and Forge Walkthrough
Enter the town of Komatsu Forge and investigate the battle inside. You will find approximately 8 Mongol soldiers, including Archers, Shieldman, and general melee soldiers.
During our playthrough, we found that the best method to defeat the Mongols was to lure them outside of the gate, as it’s large wooden entrance and fence provides cover from incoming arrows.
After defeating the Mongols, speak to Yuna and follow her to the forge.
Find Yukio
Tip: Before leaving, search the forge to find several supplies and resources such as Iron.Using the wind as guidance, begin heading back in the direction that you just came.
As you near Yukio’s location, a way point will show his location inside of a large two story building.
Before you go rushing in, there are two guards patrolling the area - study their patrol patterns and assassinate them quietly.
Tip: It’s important that you remain unseen, as the Mongols will begin executing hostages once their alarm has been raised.Once the guards are dead, go inside the building and climb the ladder to the second floor. You will find Yukio in the next room.
Yukio informs you that both his wife and daughter are in danger, follow Yukio to their location by the river.
As you leave the building, you will encounter a Mongol soldier, assassinate him when he stops by a building's wall.
As you continue along the path, you’ll see four Mongols chasing a group of peasants. Rescue them without drawing their attention. Should you fail to do so quietly, it’s important that you place your focus on the hostages, as the soldiers will not hesitate to kill them.
During this encounter, you will need to defeat four Mongols, including a heavy shieldman.
With the soldiers killed, speak with the peasants and lead them back to the forge. As you begin your way back, use your listening skill to highlight nearby enemies. During our playthrough, we managed to get back to the forge without drawing any attention.
To do this, we lead the peasants around the long way, by avoiding the path that you had taken to find Yukio and his wife.
Once you return, speak with Taka.
Find Yuna
Using the Wind, head down to the river to find Yuna. Be careful along the way, as the Mongols have moved closer to the forge. You will find Yuna by the bridge that leads to the other side of the river.
Using your bow, take out the Mongols silently to ensure the safety of the hostages.
Once the Mongols are dead, head inside the building and free the hostages.
Return to the forge with the peasants by using the same path as earlier. Do note, as you near the bridge to cross over the river, you’ll see a group of Mongols run by on the other side - so stay alert.
Defend the Forge
When returning to the forge, speak with Taka. After a short cutscene, you’ll be tasked with defending the forge from the incoming Mongols.
During this encounter, you will need to defend against Archers, standard melee soldiers, and heavy soldiers.
We found that taking out the Archers was the best strategy, as it allows you to focus on the melee soldiers without having to dodge any incoming arrows. It’s also important that you focus your attention on the inside of the forge, as it will become overrun by Mongols.
These Mongols will often target the villagers, placing them in danger.
Near the end of the battle, you’ll encounter one of the army leaders. He is a large heavy soldier that not only hits extremely hard, but also is very challenging to deal damage on due to his strong armor.
Thankfully, he’s not very fast, so dodging his attacks and getting a few quick hits in as he recovers from his attacks is one of the best methods that you can use to defeat him. You may also wish to try the method of of launching a few quick hits and then backing off out of his danger zone to avoid taking damage.
Once the leader has been taken care of, speak with Taka and end the tale.
