From the iPhone User Guide:

Select text as shown above. The "BIU" shown in the black oval are the way to do "bold italic [or] underline".

Correct. This cannot be done in a text message.

Thank you, kind sir. And also, I stand corrected as I double checked and it seems the right thing to do when referencing a book is to put it into italics. So still can't do that in a text. Again, thank you.

Hey. What does a person do then to suggest that or try to make a change? You're supposed to underline a book when referencing it.
