How To Crochet The Even Moss Stitch

Hi friends! I love finding and trying out new stitches that are simple and pretty.  Today I’d like to share with you how to crochet the gorgeous, Even Moss Stitch featuring MillaMia Sweden yarn.

It’s a super easy stitch pattern that uses slip stitches and half double crochet stitches to create a fairly dense and beautiful texture.  I’m picturing baby blankets, scarves or even washcloths.  In fact, I also used this stitch for a simple crocheted coffee cozy a while back that you can see HERE.  So, scroll down to find the written pattern as well as a picture tutorial.  🙂

Have you noticed how different each stitch pattern can look depending on the hook size and the yarn that you use?  It was a thrill to receive the MillaMia Sweden yarn (see all the colors HERE) in the mail from Love Crochet and be able to use it for this tutorial.  It is straight up LUXURIOUS and makes this stitch as beautiful as it can be.

After checking the yarn label multiple times, I guess I have to believe it really is 100% wool (it is just SO soft I couldn’t believe it)!  If you want a 100% wool, super soft, aran yarn I can’t recommend this enough.  Thanks so much to Love Crochet for allowing me to share this yarn with you today.  They’ve even invited me to be in their “flock” of bloggers so I may have more new yarns to share with you soon.  And OH – I’ve crocheted today’s swatch using a size H crochet hook and the MillaMia Sweden yarn in the color Mist.  🙂

Let’s get started…

Even Moss Stitch Crochet Pattern

Step 1: Make a chain with a multiple of 2

Row 1 Sl st into 2nd st from hook, *hdc into next ch, sl st into next ch; rep from * to end, ch 1, turn

Row 2 Sl st into 2nd st from hook, hdc into next st, *sl st into next st, hdc into next st, rep from * to end making a sl st into turning ch, ch 1, turn

Repeat row 2 until your piece is as large as you’d like.
