Required Materials to make a Stone Axe
In Minecraft, these are the materials you can use to craft a stone axe:
2 Sticks
3 Blackstone
3 Cobblestones TIP: You can use either cobblestone or blackstone to craft a stone axe! You don't have to gather them both. How to craft a Stone Axe in Survival Mode
1. Open the Crafting Menu
First, open your crafting table so that you have the 3x3 crafting grid that looks like this:

2. Add Items to make a Stone Axe
In the crafting menu, you should see a crafting area that is made up of a 3x3 crafting grid. To make a stone axe, you will need to place specific items in the grid. It is important that the items are placed in the exact pattern as our example images. Changing the pattern of boxes that are filled will change the item that is crafted.
There are 2 patterns you can use as a crafting recipe for a stone axe:
Pattern 1
The first crafting recipe uses 3 cobblestones and 2 sticks.

Pattern 2
The second crafting recipe uses 3 blackstone and 2 sticks.

Now that you have filled the crafting area with the correct pattern, the stone axe will appear in the box to the right.

3. Move the Stone Axe to Inventory
Once you have crafted a stone axe, you need to move the new item to your inventory.

Congratulations, you have made a stone axe in Minecraft!

Attack damage is the amount of damage the item will deal when attacking a mob.
Durability represents how long the item will last. For tools, weapons and transportation, durability is the number of useful actions before the item is destroyed. For armor items, durability is the number of hits (that can be blocked by armor) before the item is destroyed. So the higher the durability number, the longer the item will last.
The following table shows the attack damage and durability for each axe in Minecraft:
| Item | Name | Attack Damage | Durability |
