How To Watch Serena Williams Play The 2022 U.S. Open
Maybe your like
Serena Williams struggled with her decision to retire from professional tennis for some time. As she told Meghan Markle on the royal's recently launched podcast, "I've been doing this since I was, since I can remember. And I'm 40 years old now, so it's like my whole entire being and my whole entire life has been for one purpose. So to kind of not do that anymore, it's exciting, right? I'm really looking forward to it."
But before she steps away from the sport, Serena will play the U.S. Open one more time—she's won the tournament's women's singles title six times. (Her last win came in 2014, but she was a finalist in the 2018 and 2019 edition of the tournament, losing to Naomi Osaka and Bianca Andreescu, respectively.)
"I started playing tennis with the goal of winning the U.S. Open. I didn’t think past that. And then I just kept winning," she wrote in Vogue. Serena Williams and the U.S. Open have gone hand-in-hand since she started her career. As Meghan Markle said on Archetypes, "I'm most excited... that the last hurrah will be at the U.S. Open because it's home."
While Serena is looking forward to her post-tennis life, which includes focusing on her daughter Olympia and her husband Alexis, fans are eager to watch her play one more time. If you don't catch her practicing during the U.S. Open's fan week, here's how you can watch Serena Williams play the 2022 U.S. Open:
Watch on ESPN.

ESPN has the broadcast rights to the U.S. Open tennis tournament in the United States, and will air all the matches on multiple channels. Most cable subscriptions give you access to ESPN, but if you are a cord-cutter, you can watch on ESPN+.

What is Serena Williams's schedule of matches?
Serena won opening round match against Montenegrin player Danka Kovinić in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, and won her second round against number 2 seed Annett Kontaveit on Wednesday, August 31 in three sets, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2. In the third round of the tournament, on September 2, she faces Australian Ajla Tomljanović.
Since Serena played the night session on both Monday and Wednesday, there's a chance she's scheduled for the day session on Friday. However, since it is Serena's last tournament, there's a good chance tournament organizers will keep her playing during the night sessions. (We'll update this as soon as we know her schedule.)
If she wins, she will continue to play alternate days, and her next match would be the round of 16 on Sunday, September 4. If she makes it to the semifinals, those take place on Thursday, September 8, and the women's finals are on Saturday, September 10.
Serena's also set to play women's doubles with her sister, Venus Williams, this evening (September 1) at 7 p.m. eastern. In the first round of the doubles tournament, the Williams sisters will face Czech team Lucie Hradecká and Linda Nosková. If they keep winning, they will also play on alternate days.
