Brasil B Hello to all. Does anyone have any instructions, preferably dealer instructions, on how to bleed, flush, and refill the cooling system on a 08 LS3 Corvette? I added the DeWitts A05A radiator and Lingenfelter 160-degree thermostat. Does anyone know the total capacity, and how much of a 50/50 mixture of Dexcool coolant with dstilled water will I need? #1 · Oct 24, 2009 (Edited) Hello to all. Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Oct 24, 2009 4 gallons of distilled water and 1 gallon of 100% dexcool. might as well add a bottle of water wetter in there too!. mix it 1qt of dexcool to every gallon container of water, i wana say 4oz of WW to every gallon, but can't remember. always make extra so you can Top it off. this is a 75/25 mixture good down to like 15 degrees F. -Carl #3 · Oct 25, 2009 I run about 2/3 water to 1/3 dexcool and royal purple ice as the additive. I'm not sure how to flush the system other than to run the car with water and drain it. With the T-stat off you might be able to blow air through to force out the old mixture. With the stock radiator, the refill and bleed was done through the overflow container. IIRC, I ran the car with the overflow cap off for a couple minutes and added mixture as it sucked it down. Filled it, drove the car and topped it off. #5 · Oct 26, 2009

What is the purpose of adding the Water Wetter and/or Royal Purple Ice as a additive?? 0 Reply #4 · Oct 26, 2009 It would be great if someone could post instructions with pictures, such as the ones that GM techs use at the dealership. #6 · Oct 26, 2009 The additives improve heat transfer characteristics (by changing the surface tension of the water, IIRC) and include some lubricants. Moving to higher percentage water helps more with cooling than using an additive, but the additive puts back the lubricants that are missing from running more water than dexcool. #7 · Oct 27, 2009 Dewitts Radiator holds how much more of coolant? To get it to fit did you need to modify anything because of it being a little thicker? #8 · Nov 5, 2009 One thing that help prevent air pockets on refill is the drill a very small hole at the high 12 oclock position in the thermostat. This also aids with a more complete drain of the system. #9 · Nov 5, 2009 Draining and Filling Cooling System Tools Required J 26568 Coolant and Battery Fluid Tester Draining Procedure Caution To avoid being burned, do not remove the radiator cap or surge tank cap while the engine is hot. The cooling system will release scalding fluid and steam under pressure if radiator cap or surge tank cap is removed while the engine and radiator are still hot. Remove the coolant pressure cap. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information. Place a drain pan under the drain ****. Remove the radiator drain ****. Drain the cooling system. Lower the vehicle. Inspect the coolant. Follow the appropriate procedure based on the condition of the coolant. Normal in appearance--Follow the filling procedure. Discolored--Follow the flush procedure. Refer to Flushing . Filling Procedure Notice The procedure below must be followed. Improper coolant level could result in a low or high coolant level condition, causing engine damage. Raise and support the vehicle. Important Inspect the drain **** O-ring for signs of cracks or damage. Replace if necessary. Lubricate the drain **** O-ring with clean coolant prior to installation. Notice Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems. Install the radiator drain ****. Tighten Tighten the radiator drain **** to 2 N·m (18 lb in). Lower the vehicle. Important Use a 50/50 mixture of DEX-COOL antifreeze and clean drinkable water. Slowly fill the surge tank with a 50/50 coolant mixture until the coolant level reaches the base of the surge tank fill neck. Refer to Capacities - Approximate Fluid in Maintenance and Lubrication. Important Monitor the surge tank coolant level closely. The surge tank coolant level will begin to decrease once the engine is started. Start the engine and allow to the engine to idle. Allow the engine to idle for approximately 4 minutes. Slowly fill the coolant mixture until the level stabilizes at the base of the surge tank fill neck. Run the engine between 2,000-2,500 RPM for approximately 2 minutes. Allow engine to idle and add approximately 1 liter (1.1 quarts) of coolant to the surge tank. Install the coolant pressure cap. Shut the engine OFF. Allow the engine to cool. Top off the coolant as necessary. Inspect the concentration of the engine coolant using the J 26568 . Rinse away any excess coolant from the engine and the engine compartment. Inspect the cooling system for leaks. Flushing Flushing Important Do not use a chemical flush. Store used coolant in the proper manner, such as in a used engine coolant holding tank. Do not pour used coolant down a drain. Ethylene glycol antifreeze is a very toxic chemical. Do not dispose of coolant into the sewer system or ground water. This is illegal and ecologically unsound. Various methods and equipment can be used to flush the cooling system. If special equipment is used, such as a back flusher, follow the manufacturer's instruction. Always remove the thermostat before flushing the cooling system. When the cooling system becomes contaminated, the cooling system should be flushed thoroughly to remove the contaminants before the engine is seriously damaged. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System . Remove the surge tank. Refer to Surge Tank Replacement . Clean and flush the surge tank with clean, drinkable water. Install the surge tank. Refer to Surge Tank Replacement . Follow the drain and fill procedure using only clean, drinkable water. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System . Run the engine for 20 minutes. Stop the engine. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System Repeat the procedure if necessary, until the fluid is nearly colorless. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Draining and Filling Cooling System . Insert Quotes Post Reply
