Introduction

Mo’Nique is an American professional comedian and actress with an estimated net worth of $9 Million.

Throughout her comedy career, Mo’Nique has signed numerous multi-million-dollar deals, building a significant portion of her wealth through her Las Vegas residency and acting appearances on the sitcom The Parkers. However, she has also suffered several financial setbacks, including disputes over paychecks and issues with the IRS regarding unpaid tax bills.

Quick Facts

  • Earned just $50,000 for starring in Precious
  • Unsatisfied with her $500,000 paycheck for her first Netflix special
  • Reportedly earned $1.21 million for season five of The Parkers
  • Filed a lawsuit against CBS Studios in 2023 for breach of contract

The Parkers Salary

Mo’Nique starred in all five seasons and 110 episodes of The Parkers, but her salary for the first four seasons is unknown. She reportedly earned $55,000 per episode for season five, and with 19 episodes, she would have earned $1.045 million. Some sources listed her earnings at $1.21 million, but it looks like they’re including the final three episodes of season four in their calculations. Season four had 25 episodes, an extra three than the usual 22. So it’s very plausible that her contract accounted for 22 episodes.

CBS Lawsuit

According to reports, Mo’Nique’s production company, Hicks Media, was entitled to a percentage of The Parkers royalties, but in 2023, she sued CBS Studios for breach of contract. Mo’Nique alleged that the studio “artificially depressed” the show’s profits, thereby reducing the value of the royalties owed to Hicks Media. According to reports, the lawsuit is ongoing, and no judgment has been rendered yet.

Precious Controversy

Mo’nique reportedly earned just $50,000 for appearing alongside Mariah Carey in the film Precious. However, Tyler Perry promised her between $6 million and $8 million for her next paycheck if she won an Academy Award. In return, he asked her to do free promotion for the film, but Mo’Nique declined to promote Precious at the Cannes Film Festival. In a private conversation between Oprah Winfrey and Monique, Oprah allegedly said she supported Mo’Nique’s decision. However, she later, along with Perry, agreed that Mo’Nique was difficult to work with.

Mo’Nique later attacked Perry and Winfrey during a stand-up show over how she was treated. Despite her feud with the pair, she won the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival. In total, Mo’Nique took home 52 awards out of 66 nominations for her role in Precious, including an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Netflix Dispute

In 2018, Mo’Nique went after Netflix and accused them of gender and racial bias after she received $500,000 for her comedy special. She compared what she received to the deals the streaming service made with Dave Chappelle and Kevin Hart, who both made millions for their specials.

Mo’Nique went on numerous talk shows, including The View, where she encouraged people to boycott Netflix. Fortunately, Netflix settled the lawsuit with her in June 2022, and in July, Mo’Nique announced she would do a new special with them.

In 2023, Netflix released her special My Name is Mo’Nique, and she also appeared in season two of Black Mafia Family. Mo’Nique is also set to star in the supernatural thriller The Deliverance on Netflix, which is currently in post-production.
