Get better armour. Kill EoC and then Eater of worlds or Brain of Cthulhu depending on what biome you have, get shadow/whatever the name of the crimson armour is, then kill skeletron. If your ranger get necro armour, and if your mage get jungle/meteorite armour (meteorite armour with space gun is prefered)After that I don't see why you would die in the underworld. As long as you don't break the walls of the building between you and the hellstone, they'll keep the lava from getting to you. Down there you really only get the occassional imp or hellbat that flies down there. If anything else does go down there it's only one or two things at a time and easy to deal with.Mine out all the extra ash blocks leaving a boarder around the hellstone deposits so that there is a lot of open space around all the hellstone under the house. Then start with the lowest batch of hellstone. Mine it and remove the barrier of ash if possible (meaning lots of lava won't flood the area or kill you), and then move on to the next section of hellstone and mine that/remove the barrier if needed.
