Pickaxes are a class of the General Tool item type in Terraria that are primarily used for mining ores, ground blocks such as stone and dirt, and freeing placed blocks such as furniture. The table below provides an overview of all Pickaxes currently available in Terraria, sorted by their Pickaxe Power.
NOTE: While Pickaxes are incredibly versatile, they still have their limitations. If you are looking to gather wood or cacti, you will need to use an Axe (basic or hybrid subtypes); for altering background tiles such as wood walls and platforms, you will want to have a Hammer.
Different subtypes of Pickaxes can be crafted, found from chests or hostile mobs, or purchased from NPCs. Generally speaking, the more difficult a Pickaxe is to obtain, the higher its mining power or speed.
