History[]
Season 4[]
Kidd with her friend Gabriela Dawson
Her first appearance is in "Bad For the Soul". When Kidd first arrives at the firehouse, Gabby acts as though they have problems, but it is revealed that they are old friends. Kidd tells the house that she is recently divorced and is enjoying the single life. She goes out whenever she wants, eats at nice restaurants and whenever she's lonely she sleeps with her ex, something he is apparently fine with.
Kidd quickly proves to be a worthy firefighter and a great asset to the firehouse.
While writing her name on her new locker, Kidd asks Dawson whose locker it was before hers as it smells like cologne. Dawson tells her that it used to belong to one of Severide's old friends, Scott Rice, which didn't end well. At the mention of Severide's name, Kidd acts suspiciously shy and "blushy", but they are interrupted by Severide, cutting the conversation in half. Severide then apologizes for "the most embarrassing night of his career", since he didn't know she was married and showed up with a six-pack at her back door. Her husband went crazy and actually wanted to press charges against Severide.
Grant shows up at the firehouse looking for Stella, saying he misses her. She then goes to the Turnout Gear room with him to administer him a B-12 shot.
In "What Happened to Courtney", Herrmann is looking for entertainment for his daughter Annabelle's eighth birthday party as the guy he contracted is double-booked. Kidd tells him she knows a guy: her ex-husband is trying to start over and just needs a chance—he will also do it for free. Herrmann accepts the offer and Grant takes the gig with one condition: Kidd has to give him another chance. Kidd says she still cares for him, but he has to show her that he is growing up and changing in order for her to pursue a relationship with him again. However, when the party comes he never shows up, leaving Stella to come up with a last minute entertainment plan, Molly's Jr. Later on, Stella meets Grant at his place, where he is playing music. Stella gives him the house key and tells him that it is over as he missed the party after she backed him up with people she did not want to disappoint.
Mouch invites Stella to his wedding. She will be at a table with Trudy's friends and Severide and so tells Severide to bring his "A-game". His answer is that that's all he's got, to which Kidd asks if breaking and entering is his "A-game". That's when the house realizes there's an awkward story between the two.
During the after wedding party at Molly's, the guys are all together and ask for the real story. Stella tells them that one night after a tactical training course at the academy, Severide showed up with a six-pack after using the key under the mat to get into the house. She convinced Grant to not call the police. The following day, Severide tells her he owes her a big favor.
Herrmann and Kidd get into a discussion about who's the best manager. Stella states that she ran the best pub in Milwaukee for two and a half years. Dawson then proposes they settle things by doing the "Bar Olympics": two contestants, 10 events, winner takes all. Kidd wins, but instead of the money, she wants to help them manage Molly's. One of the changes she introduces to the bar are artisanal ice cubes, giant perfectly clear ice cubes that require a special machine to make, so they can charge more per drink and sell more cocktails than beer. After she convinces them to buy the machine, 51 is called to a fire at Molly's that apparently started because of said machine. Feeling awful about what happened, she decides to fix the damage herself.
She and Severide flirt throughout the season, and he shows up at Molly's to help her, as it is clear she can't do it alone. Kidd tells Severide she doesn't understand why, when she was married he broke into her house with flowers and champagne, but when she is finally single he keeps a distance. The two kiss and start a romance. When she is leaving the house and getting into her car, she notices a paper on her car. It's an invitation from Grant for his band's show. Grant later shows up at the firehouse to give her her favorite sandwich and tell her about the gig, saying she is the inspiration and the reason why everything is happening.
She confides in Severide that Grant is using again and that she is worried about him. Grant shows up at Molly's as she and Severide walk in together, causing Grant to fight with Kidd once again. A while later, Grant texts Kidd. She tries to call him back and realizes he is on something. Worried that something might have happened to him, she locates his phone and the team find an overdosing Grant. At the hospital, Stella tells him that he needs help to get clean. Grant insists she is all he needs, but she is done and Grant shouts at her to leave. Kidd leaves, worried, but Dr. Charles calms her down, telling her they will do their part to help him. However, some time later, Dr. Charles discovers Grant is missing from his hospital bed.
In "Superhero", Kidd and Severide are shown getting into bed together as Grant sits in the dark, a knife in his hand.
Grant attacks Kidd. Severide helps her fight him off, cutting Grant's neck in the process. Grant is hospitalized and Kidd tells him she is done with him.
Season 6[]
Brett's friend Hope Jacquinot rubs Kidd the wrong way. Hope then steals Kidd's paycheck, pretends it got lost, and fights to get a new one for Kidd. This allows her to look like the hero of the crisis she secretly created. (Devil's Bargain)
In Down is Better, Kidd walks through fire to save a baby. Hope forges a document to get Kidd transferred to PR. The transfer upsets Kidd. After work, she gets blackout drunk and kisses Severide, who tells her, "Not like this." The next day, she claims not to remember the kiss. She reluctantly starts her PR job, where she feels overwhelmed. Once Hope gets caught, she returns to being a firefighter.
Kidd worries that living in Severide's apartment could give her new boyfriend, Zach, the wrong impression. She decides to find her own place.
In The F is For, Severide is floating unconscious in a river after jumping off a building to avoid an explosion. Kidd, tied to the truck's ladder that hangs over the river, rescues him. She offers to take care of him afterwards, but he assures her he's fine. Later, she tells Severide that Zach is important to her and so is he. She thinks it'll clear things up once she moves out. Severide tells her that he doesn't want her to leave.
In Hiding Not Seeking, Kidd worries about meeting her boyfriend's sister. She decides she wants to slow things down a little. Zach breaks up with her because he thinks she has something going on with Severide. "I think you're overreacting," Kidd says hesitantly, and Zach says, "I'm not." Later, she and Severide watch a romantic movie with her legs across his lap.
She and Severide become very close, going out for milkshakes and spending lots of time together.
In The Chance to Forgive, the squad responds to a fire at a house where there are loaded weapons and ammunition, causing bullets to fly unpredictably. Kidd gets shot, but her radio stops the bullet, so she recovers quickly. She helps Otis, who was shot in the neck. Later, she meets Severide at Molly's and they make out.
In The One That Matters Most, Kidd and Severide are enjoying their new relationship. She hums happily in the kitchen and Dawson quickly figures out that she and Severide are sleeping together. She sneaks off to make out with Severide while the others eat.
In Put White on Me, Severide's mom, Jennifer Sheridan, declares she'll move in with him for a few weeks while she works on a church project. Kidd worries his mom dislikes her.
In Where I Want To Be, Kidd tries to open a heavy safe door during a fire to save a woman trapped inside. But it's a two-person job, and she calls for Cordova, who has wandered off. Another firefighter helps Kidd. Brett reveals to Kidd that Severide once had a Vegas wedding. She asks him about it and he tells her. She asks if he loved her, if he's wiser now, and if he has any other secrets. She feels spooked and confides in Casey, who offers her advice. She moves into the apartment above Herrmann's garage so she and Severide can do things right.
Kidd with her friend Gabriela Dawson
In The Strongest Among Us, Otis returns. Kidd says she wants to keep driving the truck and competes with Otis for the honor. When she is about to be announced as the winner, she takes Otis aside and asks him what driving the truck is worth to him. He then agrees to take on some of her chores so he can drive the truck. Casey recognizes the scheme to offload her chores and tells her, "Well played." She says that her hijinks were actually meant to help get people treating Otis normally again, so he says, "Double well played." Then she drives Bria Jameson and her date to prom.
In The Unrivaled Standards, she suggests that Severide ask her on a date, so he does. In One for the Ages, he introduces Kidd to Renee as his girlfriend, making her smile. Kidd is suspicious of Renee's motives and tells her not to mess with Severide. Later, after Severide helps Renee win the case, he shows up at Kidd's apartment. She tells him she missed him and they kiss and cuddle.
Season 7[]
| “ | I feel like the Grim Reaper took one look at me, decided to run the other way, you know? I am so ready to get back on that truck! |
| —Stella Kidd, Thirty Percent Sleight Of Hand | |
In "Going To War", Kidd is injured in a still and box alarm fire at a high rise apartment complex. Kidd tells Herrmann she doesn't have much air left. She and Herrmann work on extinguishing part of the fire so they can save Severide and a little boy from a burning room. Kidd runs out of oxygen and collapses. She is rushed to Chicago Med and she has breathing problems from taking in so much smoke.
In When to Let Go (Chicago Med), the firefighters treat Kidd. Dr. Connor Rhodes tells them that to save her, they'll have to remove her lung. Severide protests as she would no longer be a firefighter, and asks them to find another way. With some help, Connor is persuaded and tries a different surgery, which saves her life without the lung removal. She recovers quickly.
By Thirty Percent Sleight of Hand, Kidd is feeling much better and goes back to work.
In This Isn't Charity, her friend Tyler comes to visit. Severide suspects Tyler has a crush on Kidd, so he discourages them from hanging out. This bothers Kidd and causes friction in their relationship. But they move past it. In A Volatile Mixture, Kidd tells Severide she loves him. He replies that he loves her too.
In All the Proof and What Will Define You, Kidd supports Kelly Severide after the sudden death of his father, Benny Severide. She tries to find his missing medal, which Katie Nolan gives her. Kelly's mother, Jennifer Sheridan, tells Kidd that she is good for Kelly. As the funeral begins, Kidd gives Severide his father's medal.
Kidd gets upset in The Solution to Everything when Casey orders her to hang back instead of rescuing Severide during a fire. She also meets and loves Tuesday the dog, even offering to adopt her. After she sees Severide opening up to Foster about his dad's death, she insists she's glad he's talking to someone but also seems to feel weird about it. Brett notices that Kidd has been irritable and running herself ragged. Brett suggests making time for self-care.
In Always a Catch, Kidd asks Severide to join her and Tyler for dinner and drinks. He bluntly turns her down. Later, he is rude when Tyler shows up at the firehouse. Tyler tells her how Severide got in his face previously and says he's worried that Severide is too possessive. Kidd asks Severide if he threatened Tyler before, sparking a fight.
In Inside These Walls, Severide keeps acting cold to Kidd. They break up. Then Tyler tells Kidd he has feelings for her. He kisses her without consent and says he's in love with her. She throws him out, saying she needed a friend right now and he knew that. Later, she tells Casey about how he's been pushing her away, and it's harming their relationship. "You're going down some dark hole and I know what that looks like because I've been there before."
Kidd training Tuesday
Kidd decides to train Tuesday for a competition in You Choose, dismissing a harsh dog trainer and reading up on dog training. Herrmann wonders if she is doing this to distract herself from her breakup with Severide. Tuesday performs tricks well when Kidd has treats with peanut butter in hand. However, when the competition arrives, Kidd gives commands without treats, so Tuesday loses interest and runs off to lick the face of a girl who's eating a snack.
In Move a Wall, Kidd responds to an apartment fire and finds a doll and a secret room. She looks for people but doesn't find any, and she takes the doll with her. It gives her a bad feeling about potential child endangerment, so she tells Officer Upton. When the police don't turn up much, Kidd does some digging with Severide's help. They discover that a man has been taking in foster children and locking them in secret rooms. The man attacks Severide, but the police intervene and the children are saved. Boden praises Kidd and everyone applauds her. The kids she saved make drawings to thank her.
In No Such Thing as Bad Luck, Kidd gives away an antique pitcher at Molly's to a customer, unaware that Herrmann considers it a good luck charm. She gets it back, but Mouch sits on it and breaks it. However, Herrmann decides the pitcher was actually bad luck, much to her relief.
In I'm Not Leaving You, Kidd helps Severide track down arsonist Carol Spears. She empathizes with Carol's ex-husband, talking about how her ex-husband kept coming back to her after their breakup because she was the only one who tried to make him better. Then she realizes from his face that Carol is in the house. She chases Carol and Carol slashes her face with a piece of glass. (Luckily, it is a minor injury.) Severide takes down Carol and she gets arrested.
Severide tells Kidd that she deserves a better man, so he has decided to become the man she deserves. She kisses him.
Season 8[]
Kidd: "I just don't want you to regret choosing me." Boden: "No. Never." ―Kidd and Boden discussing him mentoring her, Best Friend MagicKidd and Severide are happily dating.
In A Real Shot in the Arm, Kidd and Severide borrow Boden's boat for a date. But the engine breaks down and Severide obsesses over fixing it, ignoring Kidd in her bikini (despite her attempts to get his attention). She says they need to call a towing service. The boat towers mock Severide. Then she and Severide witness a boating accident and she turns off the other boat's engine while Severide rescues a man in the water.
In Badlands, Kidd proactively makes equipment requests to help with Gallo's training, impressing Chief Boden. "You show great potential," he says, recommending her for a leadership conference. She gets anxious about her lack of experience, but Severide reassures her. He teaches her about scuba diving to prep her for a conference lesson on scuba rescues.
Kidd attends the conference in Buckle Up. Kidd meets Justina Ortiz and learns that she's less accomplished than most of the other attendees. Kidd gets self-conscious, though Severide helps encourage her on a phone call. Later, when learning about incident command, she is the first one to give a correct answer to a training question. She is chosen to play incident commander in a training scenario.
In Seeing is Believing, Kidd gets to teach the physical conditioning class at the Academy. Handling both teaching and firefighting proves exhausting, but she worries that admitting she's tired will cause people to reconsider their faith in her.
In Best Friend Magic, she is burning the candle at both ends, and she hesitates when climbing out of a 30-story window. When she's walking to the Academy half-asleep, Brett and Foster intervene, telling her to go home and they'll request a sub for her. Exhausted, Kidd runs a stop sign and crashes into another car. Everyone is okay aside from a few minor cuts, but Kidd feels incredibly guilty.
She apologizes to Boden, but he interrupts to apologize for overworking her. Coping with Otis' death, he had made her his project. She says she wants to keep being his project and is grateful for his confidence in her.
In Hold Our Ground, Kidd is concerned about Wendy Seager's interest in Severide. She lovingly intervenes in Brett and Foster's spat, asking them to hear each other out and make up.
During I'll Cover You, Stella and Wendy Seager open the Girls On Fire program.
Season 9[]
During "Don't Hang Up", Ritter tells Stella that she has a call from an unknown person. The person is a girl who says she needs her help, but the call ends quickly. When the girl calls back, she reveals to Stella and Severide that she is being held captive by gangsters who took her and her brother (who was a member) to a secluded house. The girl will not reveal her name but says she took a burner phone in the house and because she had previously come to the Girls on Fire program, says she called Stella because of her teachings. Stella is alarmed by this and brings in Kylie who does not recall all the names of the girls but wants to help after hearing the situation.
In "What Come Next", Stella takes the lieutenant's exam and eventually passes and becomes a lieutenant.
During a fire in "A White Knuckle Panic" Stella follows Kelly further into the burning building where their way out is eventually blocked and they try to break down a window but fail. In another attempt to get out they both find another window and start breaking the glass. While they are breaking the glass Kelly all of a sudden stops and proposes to Stella. Stella's answer is yes.

Damon lies, claiming that Kidd gives vague and confusing orders. This makes Pascal consider replacing Kidd and he asks Mouch about his interest in potentially doing so. Mouch advocates for Kidd, bringing Pascal files describing her record. After reviewing the evidence, Pascal recognizes that Kidd is a good lieutenant, so he returns Damon to the floater pool and tells Kidd to pick his replacement.
In Through the Skin, Pascal gives Kidd a hard time about finding the perfect replacement for Damon. Kylie Estevez turns her down. Herrmann decides to offer her Ritter.
