Write It Motherfuckers — How Does One Write Gay Smut? Kinda Need ...
Maybe your like
I’ll do my best, but I’ve never had to give advice in this area before.
Obviously the text below involves talk of sex scenes and smut in general. Please do not read further if you are under 18.
Biggest thing that makes smut good? Foreplay.
Lots of foreplay leading up to the “main event” because the actual sex itself is pretty straightforward. Even if you’re writing a particularly passionate scene, with lots of emotion and movement, the main event itself tends to fall flat if there’s no foreplay to build the moment.
Be descriptive, but make sure you don’t get clinical about it, because that’s obviously going to kill the mood. Whilst some people enjoy the “dirtier” smut which involve a lot of over the top and hentai worthy descriptions and gratuitous uses of words like “sloppy, gaping, and hole”, in general that kind of wording is going to make most readers incredibly uncomfortable and sometimes even make them abandon the story completely. (Yes I am one of those people who nope hardcore instantly.)
Again, some people are into that, but it’s a narrow group, so just be aware if that’s something that concerns you.
Smut that holds emotional weight and carries some form of passion, is always going to be more enjoyable to read and have more of a lasting affect on the reader.
Be aware of:
What they are feeling, both emotionally and physically.
Where their hands are, and how they hold the other person (Is it firm, gentle? are they gripping? pinning? caressing? possessive? tender?)
Be aware of their points of contact too, are they pressing as close as possible? unable to feel enough of each other? Is their only point of contact their hips? with hands gripping firmly to keep them in place? Foreheads gently pressed together as they move in slowly but passionately?
What are their eyes doing? Are they locked? closed in bliss? Unable to look away? Is their gaze intense? tender? full of wonder or awe?
Does their breath stutter and hitch? are their moans choked and gasping? soft and breathy?
Are they speaking in low reverent murmurs? whispering filthy words that make their partners breath hitch and cheeks flush? are they too overwhelmed to speak? breath stolen from pleasure?
What do they feel touch wise? Is their skin soft? hands calloused? do they gently trace scars and markings? is the touch feather light or firm? Are they soft and pliant? Firm and strong? delicate and fine?
How do their bodies react to each other and pleasure? do they arch and tremble? do their limbs quiver as they shudder with pleasure? do they tense or go boneless? do they writhe or try to curl up?
All of these sorts of things build a scene and immerse the reader in what you have written. So keep them in mind, both in foreplay, and to draw out the sex itself and give it more oomph.
Contrast is good too by the way. Firm grips and harsh thrusts mixed with loving gazes and sweet nothings whispered reverently. Gentle and slow movements with sinful words and teasing. All of those things are a very good way of setting a scene too.
Be sure to pay attention to an ending too. Aftercare is always nice to read in smut, especially if the smut itself was intense, either physically or emotionally.
Other than that Darling, I can’t really think of anything else. I hope it helps somewhat at least. Don’t be afraid to pull out a fuck load of tropes either, there’s a reason why they’re popular.
Good luck Darling~ 🖤😉
