I had a 300 SRT8 and it was 480 hp and 480 tq but I want alittle more out of my Vette what am I looking at to get there? Supercharger. 500 horsepower is safe stock, as long as you don't beat on it too hard every day. The transmission will likely fail before the engine behind 500 foot pounds of torque though. Building my motor wouldn't be an option. I've been told for 3K I could do engine work to my car and get there. I'm not a mechanic so is this not true? If you want 500 NA, it's doable with a good H/C setup, and a FAST setup. If it's to the wheels... FI is your cheapest option. (about the same cost as an all-out NA stock block build, but will achieve higher numbers. BTW. it'll cost about 7G to do the stock block/ NA route, and about 5Gs to do a centri kit. You WILL need a better clutch, and I recommend a trans brace. All prices are DIY. Last edited by zeevette; Aug 13, 2017 at 06:06 PM. I don't know if you can get 500 with $3000 though, NA or FI. If all you want is for your 3200# '99 to beat the 3800# SRT, you will not need anywhere near 500HP. Is your 99 an auto, stick? Or get a short block/long block of the same stuff already built by Texas Speed, or a ERL 454 LS engine! Get good heads can headers intake, you should be more than 500 wheel horsepower. I saw a video on YouTube of a C5 Z06 with cam, headers, supercharger, I think A and A which is top notch, vs a C6 Z06 with a cam and headers. The LS7 beat the supercharged LS6 every time. I thought the 405hp with super charger and other parts would tear up the 505hp LS7 with it's upgrades. I think big 427 or 440, 454 LS is the way to go. I will try to find that video. Automatic like my SRT was. I think my vette is also 600 lbs lighter Reply 0 0 [email protected] View Public Profile Send a private message to [email protected] Find More Posts by [email protected] Old Aug 13, 2017 | 09:33 PM Share Share Options #12 grantv's Avatar grantv Le Mans Master Joined: Sep 2014 Posts: 5,278 Likes: 539 From: Kelowna BC Default Quote: Originally Posted by [email protected] Automatic like my SRT was. Unsure how much you can squeeze with $3000 (DIY or paying others?), but a used from any manual 3.42 complete rear, and a cam/tune is where I'd start. Headers would be great, as would a set of used 243 heads, but we passed your budget now. Reply 0 0 grantv View Public Profile Send a private message to grantv Visit grantv's homepage! Although I managed to destroy both engine and trans with the sc. Now I'm forged and have a built RPM trans. I plan an air intake, headers, and exhaust upgrade but not including that in the engine budget.
