LoneRegister L So - what is the least expensive way to get 500HP to the rear wheels? Expense and Reliability being the key determiners here. #1 · Dec 15, 2003 So - what is the least expensive way to get 500HP to the rear wheels? Expense and Reliability being the key determiners here. Nitrous is a "one shot" deal. Not 500 RW HP full time. Hey - I'll run with ya! Oh - sorry man. Forgot to get the dentist to fill my No2 yesterday! DOH! #4 · Dec 16, 2003 Ya gotta spend some major dough no matter what way you take. If your basing your decision on budget as opposed to your best application for your needs, then wait till money is not an issue. Best to ya #5 · Dec 16, 2003 I keep hearing that bolt on 500HP is easy with the Z06. But I haven't quite got the picture of what is required. It seems to me that a turbo or supercharger is pretty invasive. What routes does one have to attain 500HP+? Another problem is that living in CA, I am not sure what will pass smog, and what will not. Am I correct in understanding that NO mods are allowed in CA under the SMOG laws?? #6 · Dec 16, 2003 Sure its easy to get 500rwhp from a Vette, but its not cheap. If you want to know what you can do legally, look up Corvette Mike and go see him. #7 · Dec 16, 2003 Its definitely harder in Ca, if you wanna do it legally. We cant even have long tube headers even if you do keep your cats #8 · Dec 16, 2003

500 rwhp might be easy to make but, it sure isn't cheap. In CA I'm not sure you can do it and be legal without a turbo or supercharger setup. #9 · Dec 16, 2003 for 500 hp blower and x-pipes are O.K.but heads & cam? I don't think so. Call Andy @ A&A tel.(805)658-8299; he'll have the best info. #10 · Dec 16, 2003 Questions like this make me wonder if the asker was just given his Corvette or something. Kind of a powerful car at stock levels. Cartek can get the Z near 500 N/A. I'd probobly go that route. #11 · Dec 16, 2003 (Edited) No - I had a 92 LT1 with chip, Borla exhaust, throttle body and K&N Filter. 96 anniversary rims, Torch red. :) Bought it used in 99ish - in mint condition. Just traded it in for the Z06. Yes the Z06 is powerful. Yes it's fast. The gearing is much better than the 92's gearing, and my fathers 2001 coupe. However - I know the Z06 can't be "perfect" from GM. There has to be some mods that are generally considered mandatory easy mods to increase the potetial for the LS6. Like the Zip Tie mod. I am just new to the Z06, and don't know were to start. I don't really want to slap a turbo or a supercharger in there. And I don't want to miss a small $$ mod that I just didn't know about. Has anyone done an article about this? Something like "Now you've got your dream car - here's what you should do with the $1,500 you want to spend on increasing HP" Cosmetics? Naw. I want a few extra ponies. Ok - dumb question alert: What is Cartek by the way? What do they do? Cartek N/A? Not sure what you mean. So - Nope - as much as I'd love to have been given a lovely car like this - I had to do it the hard way. I earned it! :p :) #12 · Dec 16, 2003 A good friend of mine here in KC has a '02 Z that he recently put a P1SC ATI procharger on. With fairly low boost (6lb I think) through twin intercoolers and a mild tune he was able to put down 525hp to the wheels. This is the only modification the car has done to it. It sounds to me like that is what you are talking about. It is the smallest supercharger ATI makes but there is plenty of boost left in it, if you wanted to run race gas and replace the rod bolts I would bet you could run 12lbs pretty easy and make well over 600hp to the wheels. :) #13 · Dec 16, 2003 $1500 is not going to get you anywhere near 500HP. A 100HP increase is going to take serious money no matter how you look at it. That is one of the unfortunate facts of life. Like the saying goes "How fast can you afford to go?" #14 · Dec 16, 2003 I agree. There are two routes that you can take: 1) Long Tube Headers, injectors, and a H/C kit with dyno tuning. 2) Supercharger Both of these options are gonna cost probably $5K to $7K after parts and labor. They will put you in the 500 HP range. But also bear in mind that if you have a Z putting down 500+ rwhp then you are going to have to upgrade your clutch and driveline if you plan to get on it hard all the time. JC #15 · Dec 16, 2003 Good points. Hmm- I may have to "update" my options here and thoughts on $$. Anyone in CA do upgrades to their Z and what issues have you had, or are you going to have with Smog? Insert Quotes Post Reply
