jliss J How difficult is it to replace the wheel speed sensor ? My ABS light starting coming on (and going off) periodically – 2000 Passat, 5 speed, 100K miles – no recent work on the front end. My OBD II reader didn’t see anything. My laptop with VAG-COM found the following: VAG-COM Version: Release 303.1 Control Module Part Number: 8E0 614 111 AH Component and/or Version: ABS/ASR 5.3 FRONT D10 Software Coding: 00022 Work Shop Code: WSC 05314 1 Faults Found: 00283 - Front Left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47) 30-10 - Open or Short to B+ - Intermittent AFTER RESETING AND DRIVING, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN – VAG-COM Version: Release 303.1 Control Module Part Number: 8E0 614 111 AH Component and/or Version: ABS/ASR 5.3 FRONT D10 Software Coding: 00022 Work Shop Code: WSC 05314 1 Faults Found: 00283 - Front Left ABS Wheel Speed Sensor (G47) 30-00 - Open or Short to B+ So I’m concluding it is time to replace the sensor, which seems to be available for about $125.00 on the internet. The documentation on the VW CD manual and 3rd party repair books suggest it is an easy replacement, but the car needs to be jacked and the wheel removed. But what if it is not the sensor ? An article on the web (albeit about an Audi ABS) suggests such a sensor problem can be due to CV joint hub teeth being excessively corroded or rusted (its these teeth that make/break the magnetic field for the sensor). How do I know if I have the brake pad wear indicator which may affect the part and installation ? Any suggestions or comments ? I had the following dashboard lights: ABS, traction control, and flashing BRAKE all lit up. It cost me almost $300 to get it fixed at a local garage. I noticed the new ABS sensor has a wire connector which was left dangling. I asked about this and was told this was for the brake pad wear sensor which my car doesn't have. Insert Quotes Post Reply
