PRINZ Automotive tells you all the secrets of G13 coolant, which is essential for the proper functioning of the engine.
What is the G13 ?
A long-lasting, ready-to-use coolant made from monoethylene glycol and glycerol.
This coolant uses additives including a specific technology, pink/purple color, this coolant has the same cooling and antifreeze performance as G12++ in particular.
What is its function ?
This fluid has a function of cooling the engine of the vehicle, to protect it from overheating, but also against freezing.
Its main purpose, in summer, is to maintain the engine temperature below 100°C to prevent it from overheating and, in winter, to serve as antifreeze.
Especially recommended for the cooling systems of light and commercial vehicles of the VAG group (VOLKSWAGEN, AUDI, SKODA and SEAT).
This coolant also protects against corrosion.
Miscibility (mixture compatibility) of different types of “G” technology coolants:
With the summary below, you can see if your liquid can be mixed with another.
- G11 mixes well with G12+, G12++ or G13 but not with G12.
- G12 mixes well with G12+, G12++ and G13 but not with G11.
- G12+ mixes well with G12++ and G13, also with G11 and G12 but there is a loss of corrosion protection.
- G12++ mixes well with G13, also with G11, G12 and G12+ but there is a loss of corrosion protection.
- G13 mixes well with G12++, also with G11, G12 and G12+ but there is a loss of corrosion protection.
How to read a coolant label ?
For which radiators is G13 recommended ?
It is particularly recommended for the cooling systems of light and commercial vehicles of the VAG group (VOLKSWAGEN, AUDI, SKODA and SEAT), including radiators made of aluminum, cast iron and magnesium alloys.
Thanks to the silicate additives it contains, it can further protect and repair aluminum.
On the other hand, G13 is not recommended for older engines with copper or brass radiators.
It is not recommended for radiators with lead solder. It is better to use a universal antifreeze in this case.
What are the colors of the different “G” technology coolants?
Coolants | Colors |
G11 | Blue / Green |
G12 | Red |
G12+ | Red |
G12++ | Red |
G13 | Red / Violet |
Which brands are compatible with G13 coolants ?
It is particularly recommended for the cooling systems of light and commercial vehicles of the VAG Group (VOLKSWAGEN, AUDI, SKODA and SEAT), regardless of the vehicle belonging to these brands.
If you have any doubts, we recommend that you read your vehicle’s manual carefully or seek the advice of a professional.
