AVE Global Frequently Asked Questions

AVE Global Frequently Asked Questions

Technical Considerations

To use the AVE Global platform for a course, you will need a broadband internet connection. AVE is compatible with both PC and Mac using Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari, Mozilla. If you use Internet Explorer 9, you must activate the compatibility view. A firewall or a toolbar can interfere with AVE by blocking pop-ups. For AVE to work, pop-ups must be allowed.

The new AVE GLOBAL works in all supports: computer, tablets, phone, android, kindle fire.

How many courses are there in the AVE?

AVE is made up of 16 courses, organized according to the following levels:

  • Level A1 (Initial) - Courses A1.1 and A1.2
  • Level A2 (Elementary) - Courses A2.1 and A2.2
  • Level B1 (Intermediate) - Courses B1.1, B1.2, B1.3 and B1.4
  • Level B2 (Advanced) - Courses B2.1, B2.2, B2.3 and B2.4
  • Level C1 (Proficiency) - Courses C1.1, C1.2, C1.3 and C1.4
  • For Children (Elementary) - ¡Hola Amigos! Courses: 1, 2 y 3

How many hours do I need to work to complete a course?

When you register for the Independent Online Learning option, you receive a password that allows you to work with the course material for 3 months (30 hours work approximately). On average, you need to work about 3 hours a week.

Now you have the option to register for just a one of the 3 lessons available per course. One Lesson =10 hours work, 2 weeks access.

Can I do a course in more or less time?

The Independent Online Learning option allows you to do the course at your own pace, working more or less each week to suit your own time and availability. As soon as you finish, you can register for the next course and will have to pay the fee again. If you do not complete the course in the 3 months (+ 1 bonus month), you can register again, but you’ll need to pay the fee again.

Feedback and Evaluation

AVE has an automatic system to help students keep track of the work they have done. If you are an independent learner, you can assess progress by checking the correct answers for the different activities and by doing the self-evaluation tests.

AVE and the development of language skills

The AVE material is particularly useful for working on grammar and vocabulary and for developing listening comprehension, reading and writing skills. There is a special section within AVE, called Sonidos y Letras, which focuses on pronunciation.

Only courses with the support of a tutor include practice in real time, through chat, or speaking practice with some classes onsite (one hour a week + online program).

Can I join a regular class after completing an Internet course?

If you complete an online course, you can join a class later, but it is important that your conversation skills are at the same level as the class you wish to take.

Before enrolling in a regular class, you must call the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago for a placement test. Please note that there is no exact correspondence between the AVE syllabus and the syllabus of the other courses at the Instituto Cervantes of Chicago.
