I. Cách dùng từ benefit

1. Benefit dùng như noun

1.1. Benefit vừa là danh từ đếm được, vừa không đếm được

1.2.1. Mang nghĩa "lợi, lợi ích"

=a helpful or good effect, or something intended to help

• I've had the benefit of a happy childhood.
• The benefits of this treatment far outweigh the risks.
• It is highly questionable whether this drug has any benefits at all.
• There is a growing realization that education has benefits at many levels.
• The survey clearly demonstrates that tourism can have positive benefits.

• CỤM FOR SB'S BENEFIT (for the benefit of sb) = FOR THE SAKE OF SB: vì lợi ích của ai đó = in order to help someone

• We bought the piano for the children's benefit.

1.2.2. Mang nghĩa "phúc lợi" (thường ở số nhiều)

=an advantage such as medical insurance, life insurance, and sick pay, that employees receive from their employer in addition to money

IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ:

• In addition to my salary, I get a pension and medical benefits.

1.2.3. Mang nghĩa "tiền trợ cấp"

=the money given by the government to people who need financial help, for example because they cannot find a job

• unemployment benefit
• I'm on benefit at the moment.
• If they could not prove they were looking for work, they could lose their benefit.
• We can help you find out if you qualify for any benefits.

2. Benefit dùng như verb

IELTS TUTOR lưu ý:

• BENEFIT (verb) vừa là ngoại động từ, vừa là nội động từ, tức là có thể có danh từ đứng sau, hoặc không có đều được

2.1. Benefit dùng như nội động từ (không có tân ngữ)

• to be helped by something = được lợi từ (thường đi với from)

• We all benefit when our young people realize their potential.
• We benefited directly from the reorganization.

2.2. Benefit dùng như ngoại động từ (có tân ngữ)
