funnyman7878 I was at the track yesterday on a blisteringly hot day, the temps got up to 114F. I completed 5 sessions with the bike running without any issues. However I was almost out of fuel so I started packing up to leave. I was going to start the bike so that I could take it up the ramp to my truck bed. I turned the ignition on and the bike would not start, I could not hear the whizzing of the FI motor as well... all I got on the display was a "CHEC" message. I tried again and was the same problem. Then I waited about 10 mins and tried again, I got the whiring noise of the FI priming and the bike started with a little 1-2 second sputter but then everything was back to normal and I drove home. This morning I tried starting up and everything is running normally however I am concerned about what triggered that message. During the course of the day all cooling systems seemed operational, I monitored the temp guage and it was reading 210-220ish during idle, the cooling fan did kick in at 220F so that appears fine. I did not notice the temp ontrack as I wasn't paying attention to that. Any ideas of what it could be? All I can think of is that possibly it could be temperature related? BTW, the regulator/rectifier was replaced under the recall about a month ago by the Suzuki dealership. Could that be a source of the issue? #1 · Aug 4, 2014 (Edited) I was at the track yesterday on a blisteringly hot day, the temps got up to 114F. It will stay on till the motor starts. As far as why it wouldn't start, not real sure. Seeing as how you were riding the track, I'd go through all your electrical connection points to make sure everything is tight as a first step. Sent from Motorcycle.com Free App #3 · Aug 4, 2014 The cluster displays "CHEC" if it has not received data from the ECM for 3 seconds. You can make this happen by turning on the ignition with the kill switch in run and the bike in neutral. Then move the kill switch to the stop position and count to three. Putting the bike in gear with the sidestand down will cause the same thing. Both of these cut power to the ECM and three seconds later the cluster tells you that. I'm guessing you did not have the kill switch in run position, bike in neutral or kickstand up. If you did, I'm guessing you might have a sticky side stand switch. Hell, I was starting to forget things a couple of weeks ago and it was only 95 at the track :) #4 · Aug 4, 2014 (Edited) I'm confused  are you saying I cannot start the bike with the kickstand down? I can surely do this with my CBR1000RR but I haven't tried it with the GSXR. I did have the kill switch to OFF, side stand was down. What I did was turn the ignition on and then I waited to the animation to finish which was perhaps 3-4 seconds. Then all I saw was CHEC and the gear indicator was "-". Then when I turned the kill switch to ON nothing happened and of course the bike would not start. It's possible the bike was in gear, I didn't check that. I intended to look at the gear indicator and change it to neutral if need be but all I saw was "-" instead of the gear number. I guess I just should've checked if it was in gear the manual way ;) On my 1000RR the motor can be started with the sidestand down but will cut out only when you put it in gear. This way you can leave the bike idling on the side stand. I do this all the time for the bike to warm up while I do other things like put on my gloves. It was so hot that day I think I may have been doing something out of whack. I will try what you said tomorrow! thanks for the info. #5 · Aug 4, 2014 ^^ you CAN start the bike with the kickstand down . However it has to be in neutral. Kickstand down in gear will enable the safety feature so this won't happen ....... #6 · Aug 4, 2014
