Chinese New Year Greetings - Kung Hei Fat Choi (gōng xǐ fā cái) is traditional Chinese New Year greeting meaning: Congratulations and best wishes for a prosperous New Year!; Happy New Year!

During Chinese New Year, Chinese people will greet each other with pleasant words like: 'Xin nian kuai le' which means 'Happy New Year' (simplified Chinese: 新年快乐; trad. Chinese: 新年快樂; pinyin: xīn nián kuài lè ), or 'Hao yun' which means 'Good Fortune' (simplified Chinese: 好运, trad. Chinese: 好運, pinyin: hǎo yùn), Congratulations and be prosperous (simplified Chinese: 恭喜发财; trad. Chinese: 恭喜發財; pinyin: gōngxǐ fācái; in Cantonese: Kung Hei Fat Choi. The phrase ‘Gong Xi’ (or ‘Gong Hei’ in Cantonese) means 'Congratulations', derived from the legend of ‘Nian’, congratulating each other to have escaped the harm of the beast.
