The City & Guilds (2377-77) Electrical Equipment Maintenance and Testing course (PAT Testing) is a part-time commercial training course designed for those with familiarity with electrical systems and hazards who wish to conduct portable appliance testing or oversee portable appliance testing.
What will I learn?
During this PAT Testing course, you will learn:
- Statutory and non-statutory requirements relevant to electrical equipment maintenance
- Electrical units of measurement associated with portable appliance testing
- How equipment construction and classification reduces the risk of electric shock
- Procedures for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
- How to carry out combined inspection and testing
- Information contained in documentation for in-service inspection and testing of electrical equipment
- Practical inspection and test of items of handheld and portable electrical equipment
- Practical completion of appropriate documentation.
Assessment
- Practical (demonstrate the ability to inspect and test items of electrical equipment)
- Exam (online multiple choice )
Cost includes the IET Code of Practice for In-service Inspection & Testing of Electrical Equipment (5th Edition).
As this course is categorised as part-time commercial training, it is not eligible for any fee waiver or funding via the College. The student is liable for the payment of fees, unless an external training grant or employer support is confirmed at time of booking.
Entry requirements (minimum)
While City & Guilds has not stipulated formal entry requirements, Glasgow Clyde College as a City & Guilds Assessment Centre must ensure candidates have the opportunity to gain this certification successfully, therefore as a centre, we recommend the following:
- Candidates can demonstrate familiarity with and adequate prior knowledge of electrical systems, hazards of electricity and calculations.
- ECS cards, JIB electrician grade cards and/or an SVQ Level are advantageous.
The above are not mandatory but will enhance learning experience and probability of successful completion.
Jobs and further study
On completion of this course, candidates will receive a City & Guilds 2377-77 Electrical Equipment Maintenance and Testing certification to formally test portable electrical appliances in accordance with the IET code of practice.
