HiI've just driven 650 miles in my 55 plate Passat 2.0 TDi and all of a sudden the clutch pedal has started sticking. When i press the clutch, it sticks about two thirds of the way down when i take my foot off it, and i have to put my foot under it to pull it back up.There is no problem with using the gears and the car drives fine, so i assume the clutch itself is fine (it was replaced at about 60k miles, now on 98k).Has anyone encountered this issue, or knows what the cause may be? Looking around on the web, I can't seem to find a definitive answer. There is anything from needing to clean all the dust off the clutch, to needing a new engine!! I also want to make sure i am not doing any long term damage by still driving it.Thanks
Sounds similar to a problem I had with a year 2000 Passat, it turned out to be a leaking slave cylinder. Whatever you do do not try to bleed the clutch by pressing the pedal to the floor, use an easi-bleed or similar. It took me ages to bleed the clutch because once I'd pushed the pedal to the floor there was insufficient back pressure on the fluid to return the master cylinder piston to the 'clutch pedal up' position, I think that this is due to there being no return spring in the master cylinder (which has a shared reservoir with the brakes).
Did you find that the problem was worse when the car had been stood for a long time? I came out of work yesterday evening and it wouldn't go in gear until the engine had been running for a while, then the same thing happened this morning when i left the house.

The problem wasn't that the internal seal of the slave cylinder had failed, the problem was a failure of the union where the fluid hose connects so I had to replace the slave cylinder. Maybe you can get access to the slave cylinder to check for signs of fluid leaking?
Just took the car to a garage and the fluid level in the master cylinder was really low (I think he said). He's topped it up and I'm going to monitor it over the next few days.
That'll be the leaking slave cylinder as said. It's caused by a failing DMF apparently. So box out, new clutch, slave cylinder & flywheel. About £1300 at an indy.
Have just been through this problem on my 11 plate b6 passat Ended up being the clutch master cylinder needed replacing Watch out for the tell tale minor leak under the car Thankfully not in the gearbox on my model But to do the job will reauire new clutch pedal clips , master cylinder etc About a 250 / 300 pound job in an independant garage Reply OP Posts Only OP Posts Only Reply OP Posts Only
