Dancing On Ice's Ian H Watkins had a message for Strictly Come Dancing - but it didn't go down well with fans

Before he took to the rink for his final lap of honour, the Steps singer had a one final message - and it was for the ITV show's rival Strictly Come Dancing.

Ian H Watkins and ice skating partner Matt Evers became the seventh couple to be eliminated from Dancing On Ice on Sunday night.

But before he took to the rink for his final lap of honour, the Steps singer had a one final message - and it was for the ITV show's rival Strictly Come Dancing.

H, who lost out to magician Ben Hanlin when he found himself in the bottom two, thanked Dancing On Ice for having him on the show and in the first ever same-sax pairing on a reality show.

Directing his message towards the camera as hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield asked for his final thoughts, the 43-year-old said: "Strictly, it's your turn now."

In the lead up to his call, he said: "Thank you ITV for championing visibility and diversity," before jokingly adding: "Not the dance group!"

The ice dancing competition beat the BBC competition to making TV history by featuring the first same-sex couple.

However, some viewers argued that Strictly had 'already done it' and were less than impressed by H's comments.

One said: "H....Strictly had same sex couple dance. It’s was beautiful the two men that dance together there.#dancingonice."

"Did H not watch last year’s strictly? Did he not see Johannes and Graziano? Thought his dig at strictly was a bit unnecessary #DancingOnIce," added another.

"B***h please strictly have already done a same sex couples dance! Graziano and Johannes #DancingOnIce," commented a third.

There have been calls for Strictly to have a same-sex couple compete for the glitterball trophy but to date and in terms of a competing partnership, this hasn't yet happened.

During the most recent series, pro dancer Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima were paired in a group dance which was extremely well received by viewers.

But some viewers did agree with H's comments.

"'Strictly, it's your turn next' YES H! WELL SAID! @bbcstrictly Dancing on Ice have set the example with including a same sex couple. There's no reason you can't do the same," tweeted one viewer.

Another added: "@Ianhwatkins telling Strictly it's their turn is EVERYTHING!!! yes!! I can't even tell you how much I agree #DancingOnIce."

Dancing On Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
