lopro2011 L I'm in the market for an E70 and curious to know what people think about the V8 vs the inline 6? I'm leaning toward the V8 because I like the extra power and the added features that usually come with the V8. I also heard the E53 versions had their fair share of problems (don't know what the problems are, but is it the same with the E70?) Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Jun 22, 2011 The inline six design is a better engine than the V-8 in terns of reliability, smoothness, etc.; however, if you want the power, your choice is the V-8. I chose the diesel myself as it gave me the power I wanted without the lower MPG and reliability of the V-8. #4 · Jun 22, 2011 Is the power difference very noticeable between the two? If used (pre-2011) the V8 was noticeably more powerful than the inline 6 but comparable to a 2011+ 6 cylinder. If looking new, the V8 is also noticeably more powerful than the previous 8 or new 6. I've had 2 V8 X5s. Never had a problem on the 4.8i in 3 years of having it. #6 · Jun 22, 2011 I'm looking at 2007 or 2008. But wait -- I do have a 3 liter motor (the 35i). I'd LOVE to have a V8 and can afford it, but as someone had so artfully put it in another thread, I'm a "lead footed a**hole" and I'm too lazy to put gas in the car every 200 miles (if that!). 330 is pushing my sense of laziness. So no turbo :( Anyway, what are some real world figures for gas mileage and maintenance? On paper, the mpg seem very similar. (what little I'm on the interstate, I'm driving like an idiot around 90mph) No maint to speak of. 60,000 and am about to have my first oil change on my dime.
