ealtaras New Member 4Rep 13Posts Drives: X5 Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: NY iTrader: (0) | X5 x35i V6 comparison to x50i V8 Hi guys! I ordered V6 but reading about the raving comments about the power of the V8 in forums (with the hope that they will resolve the issues 50i) I'm thinking if I should swaths to 50i. I know that it's a thirsty car compared to V6 but my main concern is if the noise of the engine would bother me as I like a quieter ride in general. I know most V8 owners like that deep rumble and I understand that but I'm just wondering how much more engine noise is heard in the cabin and if it's bothersome (would you like it to be quieter). Maybe if I'm asking this question then I should just go with the V6 but just wondering how different is the V8 ride and noise isolation. If any of you have driven both cars I would appreciate the insights. |

The 35i motor is very smooth. The only reason to buy the V-8 is if you need to get to 60 in under 5 seconds (and who doesn't?) and you like to buy gas. The sound is great, but I wouldn't call it noisy. __________________ 2017 X5 35d (Performance Center delivery March 2017) 2019 230i X-drive 2022 M3 base 2000 328i sedan (UUC suspension - still the favorite), 2006 M3 slick top - Alpine White/Cinnamon SOLD! 2008 E90 M3 SOLD! 1991 325iX (both great), 2019 Miata RF - various others not as memorable but gone. |

You are not worthy of a BMW, how dare you call it a V6.... Lol, all joking aside, BMW is obviously known for their smooth I-6 engines and they are great for every day usability, although once you try the 8 you never go back....with the 8 you know you have the power even if you don't use it, although with the I6 sometimes you wish for a little more pep but don't have it... If you can swing the 8 and the fuel economy is a non-issue then don't even think about the I6 gasoline... Now if you asked about the all new I6 diesel then that's a whole other story |

barcelona Major 273Rep 1,418Posts Drives: X Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Toronto iTrader: (0) | You maybe dismayed with the growl. Matting the throttle in the V-8 not only gives a musclecar-like growl, but the same thrust. The materials and workmanship are top-notch and BMW's efforts at making the cabin quieter have certainly paid off. The premium sound system in our test vehicles didn't have to work very hard to be heard over the minimal road and wind noise. I was bothered the past road trip as my wife and her friend wanted to talk and I heard the engine a lot. Power is absolutely amazing! |

Zipforia Captain 98Rep 693Posts Drives: 2016 BMW i8 Join Date: Oct 2013 Location: So. Cal. iTrader: (0) | My Audi S5 is a V8, and just took delivery of 35i. I went with 6 mainly for mpg reasons. After driving the 35i, it's got plenty of power. I'm sure the 50i will give you a better go, but if that was my reasoning, and still wanted the space and didn't care about the mpgs, I'd go with the X5M when it comes out. As far as cabin noise goes, 6 is very quiet. Obviously 8 is going to be louder. How much louder and will that bother you? That depends on your threshold of noise tolerance. Best way to find out to go and drive both. Z. |

barcelona Major 273Rep 1,418Posts Drives: X Join Date: Jul 2013 Location: Toronto iTrader: (0) | If you trounce on the pedal, you will get growl on V8. If you do this , V8 may be noisy for you. V8 at 100km/62mph rmp is about 1800. F25 (35i, 300hp) same speed is appx 2200 at least, so same engine on F15 will be slightly higher given the extra weight. So maybe at highway cruising speeds the V8 should have lower RMP with less noise. However reviews do say insulation is better or quieter than Cayenne and the E70. Ideally find a dealer that has both then do a back to back comparison otherwise go to two. |

NikonMan First Lieutenant 68Rep 308Posts Drives: 2017 X5M Azurite on Nutmeg Join Date: Oct 2013 Location: Orange County, CA iTrader: (0) | I found that the two mills are approximately the same with respect to NVH EXCEPT at full throttle where the V8 is obviously louder. At cruising speed on the highway, especially in 7/8th gears, the V8 quiets down very nicely and sustains cruising speeds with very low RPM's. The V8 sound is not so much annoying as it is a deep, muscle-car like gurgle. Overall the F15 is a very quiet vehicle. |

NOVA99 Second Lieutenant 164Rep 259Posts Drives: 2021 M-B GLS 580 Join Date: Nov 2013 Location: Greatest Place on Earth - America - iTrader: (0) | Has no one on this thread tried to mash the right pedal through the firewall on an American pushrod big block V8? Don't get me wrong but the V8 "noise" in a BMW is a joke compared to an American brimstone and firebreathing air fed, pushrod, gasoline chugging 400HP+ V8. I get it, and understand that is the way it was engineered and respect that. However, I wish more "noise" came from those expensive oval exhaust pipes on my previous and current bimmer V8's. I love BMW V8's, but if you are concerned with "noise" vs. the I-6 go get a "mani/pedi". Geez... |

This system is like the M5’s, in that an audio file is stored on the car’s computer and then played during certain throttle applications. http://www.caranddriver.com/features...ined-tech-dept |
