24v My light came on last night while i was just nipping up the road, the car drove fine, except for one time when i pulled out of a junction , all the power dropped off, then the revs picked up again , and the car drove fine all the way home. My fuel gauge was almost touching the red, but i was filling up this morning anyway. I started the car this morning the light was still on, i drove to the Shell garage 1 mile away and filled up, i started the car and the engine light went straight out, i dont normally leave my car until its on the red except for last night. I'm wondering if i picked some crap up of the bottom of the tank now, what do you think. . #1 · Mar 27, 2009 My light came on last night while i was just nipping up the road, the car drove fine, except for one time when i pulled out of a junction , all the power dropped off, then the revs picked up again , and the car drove fine all the way home. The engine light could be so many things it's hard to diagnose without plugging it into VAG-COM. I know VW delaers charge for a diagnosis but my local VW independant doesn't so might be worth finding one like that or someone from here with VAG-COM. #3 · Mar 28, 2009 where are you based 24v? i'm in west london and i have a fault scanner...not as detailed as vag-com but it gives you a readout and tells you what's wrong #4 · Mar 30, 2009 Thanks for the replys'' i'm in Notts 16vTeg your a bit far from me , but thanks. The light as not come on since, its abit strange tbh. #5 · Mar 30, 2009 Engine light is on again , i turned the esp off, then the engine light came on 5 mins later. Is there anyone near nottm with vagcom ....can help me out please. #6 · Mar 30, 2009 24v my light has just come on aswell, the car is driving fine though!!!! I have booked it into awesome to hopefully get it sorted tomorrow. If you get no joy diagnosing your problem i will let you know what awesome say about mine tomorrow mate. Belly #7 · Mar 30, 2009 Have a look here----> http://www.r32oc.com/tutorials-guides/10313-vag-com-locations-clickable-links.html I am guessing if car is running fine it could be a Lambda probe. #8 · Mar 30, 2009 Thanks Belly, hope its something simple, but id'e like to know how you get on. Paulie '' thanks for the link, the car does run fine but there is a slight hesitation when say i'm sitting at traffic lights, you can feel it. #9 · Mar 30, 2009 Could be a coil pack breaking down? #10 · Mar 30, 2009 Whoa! There seems to be a national engine warning light conspiracy this week! My light came on just as I pulled into the work car park this morning. Seemed to run OK, but when I re-started it to drive home (having booked it into a garage in the morning), it idled very noisily and there was a whining sound like an electric pump coming from the rear on the passenger side. No idea what the problem is, but should find out in the morning. Good luck everyone else! #11 · Mar 30, 2009 Yours sounds like a broken fuel pump.... #12 · Mar 30, 2009 (Edited by Moderator) The engine light is definitely not due to low petrol (my petrol needle often goes so low that it dont move when i switch the engine off/on only petrol lights comes no engine light. i do treat it regularly and change the fuel filter every service every 6mths or 10k miles) meanwhile back at the ranch... i suspect its the probe(s) might be an idea if you get VW to check it. I had the same problem VW found two probes had gone bad likely cause moisture. Any how since replacing them my beloved has been running SHweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! #13 · Mar 31, 2009 RED DEVIL, it will be nice to find out whats causing it, the light was on this morning, i'm giving jbs a ring as i'm in Notts, id'e rather go there than the dealers. Thanks everyone. #14 · Mar 31, 2009 Just got the call from the dealers. Apparently there are two faults logged: first the brake pedal switch is broken (apparently rear brake light failures can cause the light to come on), and secondly a flap on the exhaust manifold is broken. I also have a broken rear coil spring which needs replacing. All in, £300. Lets hope the expensive warranty I paid for will cover some of this. 24v, I'm in Notts too, would have tried JBS but didn't want to drive the car too far. Mine's at VW as the warranty pays out dealer rates. Good luck getting yours sorted. #15 · Mar 31, 2009 Hello again 24v, i had my car diagnosed at awesome today and walked away with a bill totaling...........wait for it £ 51.12p. The car showed up 3 faults on vagcom they were 16795 secondary air injection system: incorrect flow detected, 17819 seconday air injection system; bank 2 insufficient flow and 16955 brake switch: implausible signal. I had the vacuum pipe replaced for the air injection system replaced and a new brake switch put on, solving all 3 faults. Hope you get yours sorted soon mate Belly #16 · Mar 31, 2009 2 R's done 1 to go mine lol, glad you both got your cars sorted thanks for the feedback. MY engine light went out 20 mins ago lol. #17 · Mar 31, 2009 Ha, I'm driving a 1.4 Corsa hire car through my work as the R is still at the garage awaiting delivery of the spring and confirmation of the warranty...... #18 · Apr 2, 2009 (Edited by Moderator) When i got round to changing my spark plugs, i could not believe the condition of the Coil packs, and the plugs... I then cleaned all the Coil packs.
