[report] [news]Monday 14th January 2019quotequote all I have an ongoing issue with my R32, I hope someone here can help me out....A few months ago the engine light came on during a long drive, no other issues or symptoms. Fault code pointed to the MAF so a new one was ordered, fault cleared and all was good. For a week. Then the light came back on and the car started behaving strangely. When I release the brake and give a little throttle to pull off it seems like it does not want to pick up revs, you had to give it a fair amount before suddenly it would catch and pull away with a jerk. It would stall at junctions too.New fault codes pointed to O2 sensors, so these were changed along with plugs and crank position sensor. With codes reset all was good for a few weeks, then the light is back on.Less of the jerky pulling off now, although sometimes hesitates a little and runs a bit rough at idle, sounding deeper than ususal and a bit more of a fuel smell. Then would not start at all, cause found to be a blown fuse. Faults reset and all good, until the CEL is back on.ECU sent off to the ECU doctor, who have not seen the ECU type before and so cannot check for malfunctions. Can only reflash a replacement unit to the tune of 400 quid, with no guarantee it will fix it (although will be a guarantee that it can be sent back for just restocking fee so not toooo much risk). Fault codes now still show crank position, AF mixture, O2 sensors etc.Now all the cheaper bits have been replaced it starts to get more expensive to investigate, so I turn to the PH gurus for any experiences or advice.I could just reset codes and take to my nearest VW dealer to PX for a newer Gti or R, but would not feel morally right to hide the issue....so please dont suggest that.

[report] [news]Monday 14th January 2019quotequote all Easy/cheap check will be the throttle body. Give it a clean and then see what happens. Could be a vacuum leak somewhere too. https://www.r32oc.com/topic/43434-throttle-body-cl...

[report] [news]Monday 14th January 2019quotequote all Check the throttle body and the butterfly. It gets a build up of grime over the years and results in really rough running.

[report] [news]Friday 18th January 2019quotequote all Interesting thoughts. If it was a dirty TB, would that not result in poor running all the time? This seems to come and go.I'll give it a clean anyway. Thanks.

[report] [news]Friday 18th January 2019quotequote all You need to have the correlation between the cam position sensor and the crank position sensor checked. I suspect the timing chain is stretched which would give the problems you describe. Reply OP Posts Only OP Posts Only Reply OP Posts Only
