Context: Surgery: Surgical procedures are billed separately by doctors and the hospital. The doctor’s charge for the surgery includes the cost for any follow up treatment or visits within 90 days of the procedure, also known as the ‘global period’. However hospitals must bill each date of service separately as there is no ‘global period.’ This means any subsequent follow up visits after the surgery will produce a separate hospital bill that will be submitted to your insurance and out pocket costs for which you will be responsible.
