KEEP YOUR CHIN UP

Nghĩa đen:

Vênh cằm lên (!) (keep your chin up).

chin = cái cằm

Nghĩa rộng:

Giữ tinh thần thoải mái, lạc quan trong giai đoạn khó khăn (to stay cheerful and hopeful during difficult times)

[Văn nói]: Động viên ai đó trong lúc khó khăn để họ dũng cảm hơn, đỡ buồn hơn.

Nguồn gốc:

Nguyên bản tiếng Anh Anh là: keep your pecker up, bắt đầu từ những năm 1840, khi từ điển định nghĩa từ “perker” là ‘courage – lòng can đảm” hoặc “resolution – sự quyết tâm”.

Tuy nhiên, thành ngữ này không sống được trên đất Hoa Kỳ, vì ở Hoa Kỳ, “perker” còn là tiếng lóng với nghĩa “penis” (chim), tức là chả liên quan gì tới thành ngữ nguyên gốc cả.

Cách dùng:

Hình ảnh “ngẩng cao đầu” mà thành ngữ này vẽ ra, không nói các bạn cũng hiểu, hơi có vẻ sáo sượng sến sẩm một tý. Nên cân nhắc khi dùng để tránh bị chê.

Thường hay dùng trong văn nói, thể mệnh lệnh, như một lời động viên.

LUYỆN PHÁT ÂM:

Trong phần này, các bạn sẽ luyện phát âm theo các câu mẫu.

Phương pháp luyện tập:

  • nghe câu mẫu do người bản xứ phát âm, tập nói theo,
  • ghi lại phát âm của mình,
  • nghe lại phần thực hành và so sánh với phát âm mẫu
  • lặp lại quá trình này cho tới khi phát âm thuần thục.

LƯU Ý:

  • Thời gian ghi âm: Không hạn chế
  • Thiết bị đi kèm: Nên dùng headphone có kèm microphone để có chất lượng âm thanh tốt nhất
  • Trình duyệt web: Dùng được trên mọi trình duyệt. Lưu ý cho phép trình duyệt sử dụng microphone để ghi âm.
  • Địa điểm thực hành: Nên yên tĩnh để tránh tạp âm
