The Belgian SNCB also run these Loks under the name of " série 18 " wearing a yellow/blue livery .BUT, but but....LSModel has announced they will do this model too ! LSM are intent to produce two registration number of the French version , and two registration number of SNCB version......Untill now LS Model have only produced coaches & wagons..... Their first motorized item is the SNCB " série 13 " actually coming in stores . Plastic items , true & accurate models , poor design in my opinion . ( hard to dismantle , some parts are sometimes glued)Global quality is between Hornby & Roco .All is made by chinese subcontractors . The selling price for a "série 13 " is between 200 & 220 E without digital decoder .They don't give prices in their announcement for CC 40100 .We will see how Marklin will fight and manage this competition .They have to act cleverly . Unless they should give up or report it later...After two years of rumours we were all waiting for the Marklin model , The recent LSM announcement is a real surprise .( Marklin have not officially announced it. They are intent to do it in February ) I think Marklin has to produce one completely different model : either a very nice upmarket model or one " Hobby" range model ( not more than 100 E )

Models are being made by "Modern Gala" in China. One of my dealers strongly affirms that the better locos Märklin have released in the more recent past are made by Sandakan of China.Among them, the SBB "Seetal crocodile", the SBB Ee3/3 and the French and Luxembourgeois crocs, the famous SNCF/CFL "Fers à repasser".Wouldn`t be astonished if the same applied to the GG-1, the BB`s and the Mikados, pics can be manipulated and legends faked, you know. Tell the Chinese what you want to get from them and they will deliver. Whenever the input is junk, the output will turn out to be junk as well!Remember Hübner and their first class #1 gauge trains?BTW, most of the #1 gauge items bearing the Märklin brand name were developped and made by Hübner...Nobody ever complained about quality related issues, AFAIK.The top notch #1 gauge King Ludwig Train was developped and produced by Samhongsa in South Korea - confirmed by a Märklin collaborator (Posted this some time back in this list). For my part, I like the Chinese made models from Märklin/Trix more than their oudated German product line.Regards,Manfred

jeehringJoined: 25/09/2003(UTC)Posts: 2,786Location: , Hi all , Hi manfred , A matter of taste !....and very respectable taste .That's Marklin family ! I'm just respectful of all which is a matter of personal taste . About chinese manufacturing in general , I would say nothing more.About "marklin with chinese manufacturing" ,because of some isolated links or selective cases , I think some people , on various discussion forums , are showing great phantasmagoria ....I just say that as complete finished items from marklin productions , " chinese manufacturing " is an epiphenomenon .Untill now ( " untill now " ), concerning subcontractors , Marklin has always been developping a strategy of proximity , encouraging nearness also as an important factor ,as much as possible ...Marklin has been making a deal with many subcontractors !We all know some specific cases in Z scale , 1/32 and HO scales . Because I've been following very closely the almost "tragic" wink and almost "scandalous & enormous" wink faults ( wink only for french people ! wink.... Cool ) in engraving of the first BB 12000 serie with green livery ( it has been corrected on following versions ) , and all about the extra run of 600 Trix exemplaries in the wake of the 3600 CFL making , I have some doubt about a chinese complete manufacturing .....however I know that this model comes from a Trix designers work ...and is showing few special features like gears made of synthetic material ....About the 1/32 scaled model of KING ludwig train , it could be the reason why so many people felt disapointed about the " strange " design and manufacturing of this very short run...The Korean Samhongsa has been also dealt with many other brands specially for big scales ( Lionel ,Fulgurex / lemaco etc...). Each time for short run models....I have read somewhere Samhongsa has got some big troubles and doesn't exist anymore .......At least under the name of " Samhongsa "...It coul be another discussion...! respectfully
