vbertone V Hello to all...new to the forum and new Volvo owner. Just bought a 08' xc90 3.2l AWD on Monday, today, two days later, it is going in the shop for a noise when you shift into gear or as you accelerate, or come to a close stop, but not while your driving. It is a "certified" one from Annapolis Volvo and they don't seem to think it is a major issue and is safe to drive till they repair it. Any idea on what it could be? I know this may be dangerous to even post this type of question as I may just worry myself more but need to have some type of idea of what it could be and if it is going to be a long few years. Any help would be appreciated #1 · Sep 29, 2011 Hello to all...new to the forum and new Volvo owner. But for anyone to give you some help you'd need to be a bit more descriptive about how it sounds and where it's coming from. Usually if something is clunking when you put it in gear it's some kind of mount and the engine and or transmission might be shifting. Same would happen when you accelerate or stop as it shifts one way and then the other. Wait for the call from the dealer before you start to worry. #3 · Nov 5, 2012 QUOTE (vbertone @ Sep 28 2011, 08:03 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hello to all...new to the forum and new Volvo owner. Any help would be appreciated I know this is an old post, but I've been having the same issue on a 2010 XC90 AWD. Did you ever find out what was wrong with your vehicle? #4 · Feb 9, 2013 I'm having a similiar issue with my '89 245.....and I have had ALOT of work done chasing this roaring noise that gets louder as I accelerate, and stays at that level until I decelerate. In the past year, I've had the following work done: BOTH U-JOINTS REPLACED; VALVE COVER GASKET/INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKET; ENGINE MOUNTS; RIGHT AND LEFT LOWER BALL JOINTS; REPACK WHEEL BEARINGS; REPLACE FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS; RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY; NEW TIRES AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT. Still, that infernal noise continues. I do know that the tires replaced had abnormal wear patterns, indicating that it IS a front end issue. But, still, no one has been able to fix it. Any ideas? #5 · Dec 29, 2019 (Edited by Moderator) Growling, grinding noise in front end at low speed and acceleration, seems to go away at constant highway speed. I have a 2007 XC90 3.2 AWD. I got it at 92,000 miles, it now has 150,000. I thought it was perhaps, axle(s), propeller shaft, wheel hubs and more. I did a major overhaul and replaced all of these, and all other front end parts. The noise persisted. I then read a post, REPLACE the Torque Rod P/N 30680708...WOW Noise is GONE !!! On my vehicle this 'mounting rod' the rubber was hard and very loose in the aluminum casting. The Hutchinson P/N appears to have been manufactured for Volvo, because the "Volvo" name and P/N is ground off the Hutchinson casting. Save some money buy the Hutchinson. Very easy fix $50, plus 4 bolts. This 'mount' Torque Rod is located on the upper passenger side of the engine and the Rod itself is covered with an aluminum casting 'hood'. You have to pull the engine cover up and off. I bought my XC90 just last week (my first vehicle!) and was experiencing this same issue. I ordered the part suggested, picked up a 15mm deep socket from Home Depot, and had the torque rod switched out (5 bolts for me) within 5/10 minutes. She sounds smooth as can be now. Top suggestion; kudos! #7 · Nov 25, 2023 Thanks so much for posting this. Thought for sure I had a drivetrain issue but just replaced the mount and noise is gone. 10 minute job Insert Quotes Post Reply
