ANDYF Hi, my rear parking sensors on my 2011 T5 have developed a fault. When I engage reverse I get a long single beep warning tone then nothing else as I reverse. I've listened to the sensors as others have recommended and can hear all of them clicking as if they are working ok? This afternoon I've taken the bumper off to check wiring and dry the sensors overnight in the house... But... I thought it would be OK to unclip the end cap of the sensor to clean it better inside in case there was a dirt trap area, I now know this cap shouldn't be removed as when you take it off it immediately snaps the wiring inside so I now need at least one replacement! Has anyone tried the cheaper (£20ish) OEM replacements from eBay? Some even state lifetime unlimited warranty! Cheers. #1 · Feb 6, 2016 Hi, my rear parking sensors on my 2011 T5 have developed a fault. When I engage reverse I get a long single beep warning tone then nothing else as I reverse. Yep - I bought 2 at £11 each and they work fine. If you read the diagnostic codes, it should tell you which sensors are faulty. Eg: 2 Faults Found: 01546 - Sensor for Parking Aid; Rear Mid-Left (G204) 31-00 - Open or Short to Ground 01547 - Sensor for Parking Aid; Rear Mid-Right (G205) 31-00 - Open or Short to Ground #3 · Feb 6, 2016

Yes, been on about a month and all OK up to now, how it'll hold up in this weather is another thing. #4 · Feb 8, 2016 Cheers, I've bought a couple from eBay so will let you know the results... #5 · Feb 13, 2016 Right... I've fitted the 2 new ones with 2 old ones and at first they didn't work, but after some elimination swapping round with the third old one it looks like one of the new ones doesn't work! (No clicking noise and solid beeeeeeeep!) The old ones have been on a radiator in the house all week so either I took the damaged one apart by chance or they all just wanted a week in the warm house? I'm not convinced by the £20 eBay OEMs I bought so might bite the bullet and get one from VW... #6 · Feb 13, 2016 Have you checked how much they are from VW yet? If an Ebay seller sends you a faulty one you just tell them and they send you another one - or you get your money back. #7 · Feb 13, 2016 Yes, I'd thought about getting the faulty one swapped but I'm a bit put off if one is broken before fitting, I'm thinking how long the other will last..? Also forgot to mention the eBay sensor end is different, the original sensor cut out area is round but the eBay ones are oval. I've not priced one up yet but with my £40 refunded from eBay surely in half way there..? 1 Reply #9 · Feb 13, 2016 Maybe you're right. Our two replacements have been on for over 4 winter months now and still Ok, but perhaps I tempt fate by saying that. I can't recall exactly, but IIRC replacements from VW are around £90 each! #10 · Feb 13, 2016 TPS wanted £76 +vat for 1 sensor for my octavia vrs, so T5 will probably be about the same I got one for £16 off ebay it looked identical to original even the part number was the same and it works fine. #12 · Feb 20, 2016 This weekends update... Got a refund for both eBay sensors and put the money towards a genuine one from VW. (£88 inc vat with trade discount) Fitted them all back today and so far so good. I think if it happens again its worth taking them out and leaving on a radiator for a while. (Also treated the van to a nice multifunction leather steering wheel!) #13 · Feb 21, 2016 My garage has told me my loom to the sensors has corroded and needs replacing,£207 inc VAT OUCH ,how easy is it to replace yourself rather then garage n cost me more. Thanks #14 · Feb 24, 2016 I guess it depends where the loom connects or plugs in? If it's somewhere behind the bumper or lights should be easy but if if goes further it could require a lot of stripping out..? 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
