famm3 Enlisted Member    13Rep 48Posts Drives: E92 M3 Join Date: Oct 2015 Location: - iTrader: (2) | Passenger Restraint Malfunction "Fault in passenger restraint system...." Just got this code out of nowhere. Any idea what could be wrong? I tried searching everywhere and every thread says something different. Anyone can help? |

BOOF-M3 Brigadier General   4452Rep 4,010Posts Drives: 2011 M3 Join Date: Nov 2014 Location: South Pasadena Florida iTrader: (1) | I have the same thing and at this point it has been determined that it is the seat sensor that determines if someone is sitting in the seat. But it may also be the seatbelt tensioner. I will find out for sure when she goes in for the air bag recall. |

Eventually you should probably head to your dealer or local mechanic to have it checked out. I don't believe anyone can diagnose it remotely from here. Is it driver or passenger side? |

To your question yes, It can be coded out if it's the seat mat sensor but you have to disconnect the sensor wire under the seat and then someone like alex@alpine can code it for you for his advertised price of $60. Or a number of independent shops in your area also I am sure. I have not checked my battery wire as my trunk is loaded right now and I was going to have my service guy check that when I go in for my air bag recall. If not sure where the battery is or which wire to jiggle just use the search tab here or google it. It will definitely come up. Keep us updated on your progress, will definitely help other members if the battery wire jiggle works. |

Then i bought a battery hold down arm that comes on the 3 series verts that bolts across the top of the battery. I bent the arm a little to provide more pressure down to keep the battery from moving. |

You need to know which exact component of the ABG system is triggering be fault. THEN you can disable it via NCS and clear the faults.
