I would like to paint the Mercedes emblem on the front grill like Outside Van does. The chrome part seems to be detachable but don't know how it's held. Don't want to aply to much force in fear of breaking it. Anyone have a technique to remove it? (Tried the search, couldn't find anything) V

Good question. My personal preference is,...I'd like to do away with the MB grill Star altogether, as it is often seen as a logo of 1%ers,...bankers, capitalists, the wealthy. To be stealthy, I thought of getting a Freightliner grill replacement,...but a MB Star removal would be better. If I lived outside of North America I wouldn't even worry about, as most know that the Sprinter is a utility vehicle. T

I can tell you how . Use a credit card or something plastic & pry under it . Wiggle until clear . They're about $14 a piece from "europarts-sd.com " . :rad: BikeJozz

if you were able to get it off, could you post a pic so we can see what it looks like? when i get a '14, i too am going to strip the stars off - don't want 'em. i might do what v37 suggests and get a freightliner grill, but if i can just pop off the star on the existing one, all the better! i'm also hoping that rear emblem on the doors comes off - would replace that with a FL emblem. I have a '15 and just tried it. Two screws at the top of the grille, and four push pins will release the top or the grille. Then you reach down and lift up on four tabs at the bottom of grille and that releases the bottom of the grille and trim piece complete. Now the fun part and a WORD OF CAUTION: The chrome emblem has six tabs which need to be released. five around the perimeter and one on the center. These are hard plastic and I tried to release them but stopped as they will break before they release!!! I put the grille back on and advise the best way to paint the chrome part is tape everything around the emblem off with painters tape and have at it. Just my $0.02 and plan of attack. Mine is Freightliner. You need not worry about removing it,it just falls off.So if you want to keep it,remove and reglue before you lose it. Santa Fe has plenty of the 1%ers that you seem to dislike, but there are lots of poorer places in New Mexico for you. L

Ah But! Why not relish in the one upmanship league of ranking and get an MB star illuminated by led encrustations no less? Then you really can let everyone on front of you know what you are driving when looking in the rear view mirror! --If they didn't already! I saw one on the counter at my local MB dealer/ supplier! Asking how much was it for one of those chintzy highly priced plastic renditions ? -----I was informed with a nod and a wink 600 bucks Dennis! AND installed??? Another 600 bucks! Wow! Then a chuckle and my comment--well sorry guys but MB isn't close the league of ostentatious presentations! Rolls Royce goes one better for those Emirate-es; Types who wear precious stone encrusted in their Cartier sun glasses from Harrods! --The illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy no less!:rolleyes: Hand formed in Waterford Crystal; she lights up in various hues of colour as you drive along making statements perambulating down Regent's St! AND all the time observe her nether regions as you gaze over the bonnet and the road ahead, trying that is to avoid all the unwashed masses with their Tesco shopping bags! Now that is class! Because how many of you take a "cheeky" gaze at a shapely slightly prostrate female with no underwear lines and cellulite bulges to mar the visual sculpted pleasure gentlemen? Tsck Tsck-- MB has no imagination! I know I do! And being a bit of a mongrel you could say its the Italian in me !-- I can't help it! Leads me to contemplate whether Fiat might have a similar rendition in the works?:smilewink: But then there the stronger Irish bit in me from my paternal forebears that has to take the pizz (its an Irish sport doncha know? ) all the while putzin' along in me O' Rafferty's motor car in 40 shades of effing green! Dennis BikeJozz

Did not try to remove it yet. Thanks for the heads up though. Might paint it in place, seems like less work than trying to pry it out of there. The rear one is pretty straight forward at least. Oh, and thanks for keeping this thread on track... surlyoldbill

I was looking at mine the other day (T1N, similar grill). I was thinking that cutting out the 3 sided star, leaving a round hole that could be filled with an LED headlight/driving light might be kind of nice. A 3-eyed van, with no free advertisement logo. On that topic, I've always scratched my head at people that pay money for a T-shirt that has nothing but a company logo on it; those should be FREE. A big Nike Swoosh is just an advertisement, not a fashionable "design". Would you buy a t-shirt just because it has the Geico or 7-11 logo on it?! One of the first things I do with a new car is go and remove all the logo stickers and trim. The new pickups will be difficult, because now they stamp the brand/model into the sheetmetal of the tailgate. L

I removed the whole grill and took it inside and layed it on a table on a towel so I could work on it. Those plastic retainer clips are really tough to release but if you use a few sharp knives and jam them in the slots to work like shoe horns they will give it up. And don't forget about the center one. You kinda need to get em all simultaneously. Be patient. Then sand it and paint. I painted mine flat black. Kinda goes away in the grill now. Same thing only easier on the back emblem. I did this just recently so my avatar pics have it when it was still chrome in "here comes money" mode. Flat black looks tough! I was kind of thinking of the Tucker, but I wouldn't hook it up to turn with the front wheels... BikeJozz

Did you remove the grill and Chrome star or paint it in place? R

Gavia, I can't seem to get the grill to release. There are several sets of 'release tabs'. If I am looking down there seems to be the 4 tabs you reference then there are a couple sets below these on each side and middle. Any suggestions to get those tabs to release? Don't want to break it. mikesprints

Here are some photos of the release tabs inside bottom of grille. There are four. I painted them so I could see them better.
