Van Anh Nguyen

Content created by Virtual Intern  Nini Vo

Van Anh Nguyen is an advocate and educator focused on domestic violence. She founded the Center for Studies and Applied Sciences in Gender, Family, Women, and Adolescents (CSAGA) in Vietnam working on gender, domestic violence, bullying, human trafficking, and lesbian rights.

Nguyen visited the U.S. in 2004 on an International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) that focused on the role of volunteerism and public-private partnerships. Nguyen’s time in the United States exposed her to the creativity in the nonprofit community and their ability to leverage activism and volunteerism. Inspired by her IVLP, she has applied the nonprofit principles she saw on display in the United States to her work in Vietnam.

In 2008, Nguyen used grant funds to organize several domestic violence workshops for local leaders that provided opportunities to advocate for reform.

Van Anh Nguyen is a strong voice for vulnerable groups in Vietnam and creates lasting change through her partnerships and advocacy.
