#1 · Jun 21, 2008 basically i am looking into getting rid of my e39 m62 540it and getting a 03-04 x5. i do NOT want the straight six motor and we do not have access to the diesels so my options are with the v8 lineup. Is it worth going to the 4.6/4.8is models or is the 4.4 sufficient? i do want a handful of options and i would really like a 04 since they upgraded the facelift and the tranny as well as some other options, but i am asking the advice of those of you who have owned one or more models. Bluetooth will be fairly important as is nav and folding mirrors. basically by the time i get a 4.4 the way i want it will it be so close i should dump the extra couple of bucks and get the 4.6 out of the 03 or a 4.8 out of 04. I see teh upgrades listed and i know newer is better, but there is a $10grand jump from 4.6 to 4.8. which are both more expensive than a comparable 4.4. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. btw the mileage doesnt kill me since i only drive 20 miles a day, but i did notice a noticeable increase in mpg's from 03-04 more than likely in the trans upgrade Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Jun 21, 2008 All I can say is drive a 4.8is before you make a decision. I drove the 3.0 and 4.4 and was not impressed until I drove the 4.8. I probably would not have purchased a BMW SUV until I drove the 4.8. I have one for sale and I have included the links below for your consideration. It is an 04 and I have ~61k on it now. I have lowered the price considerably over the last couple of months. Due to the fuel prices the interest in these vehicles seems to have disappeared and I have lowered my price from 42k to 36k, OBO. I have seen a lot of posts on this forum and others that seem to indicate people get very poor results on the 4.8 for fuel economy, but I routinely get 16+mpg in town and 20-22mpg on the road. Just depends on how aggressive I drive. I purchased an 08 GMC Acadia AWD SLT 2 and it doesn't get as good an MPG as my bimmer does. With 6000 miles on it I still get less than 13MPG in town and only got 18MPG on the road, so to me the Bimmer seems like the more econmical to drive, not that is matters that much because I don't drive either over 10k a year. http://www.specialtyauto.net/car_38802.htm http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.j...address=73034&advanced=&end_year=2004&doors=&transmission=&max_price=&cardist=0 #3 · Jun 21, 2008 x5 ok thanks for the input. Im sorry but black interior is mandatory and i would really like titanium silver exterior. i just dont know about the lighter colors. i have driven a 3.0gas and well just as i expected its a 3 series motor in a heavy tank. my wagon has the 4.4l so i have a idea of how thats going to run and just didnt know how much more you get for a 4.6 or 4.8. i am really leaning towards a 4.8. that is a great deal on yours and getting closer to my pricerange. thanks for the reply This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.
