#1 · Aug 12, 2010 Im looking to buy a x5 4.6 or 4.8. Which is the better vehicle? What are common problems with these V8? Any information is helpful. Thanks Sort by Oldest first Oldest first Newest first Most reactions #2 · Aug 14, 2010 i would choose 4.6 if you want a sportier model. the 4.8 has 13 more horspower but it weighs a slight more so that evens out. 4.8 has 6 gears, but 4.6 has 5 which is better for sport use. fuel is almost the same, nothing to worry about. but 4.6 has more MINOR electrical problems like brake lights and stuff (since it is with a light socket, as for the 4.8 it is LEDs... ) hope this helps.. i drive 4.6 because it is a legend! #10 · Sep 23, 2010 The 4.8 has 40 more horsepower than the 4.6. You should just purchase the best condition car you can buy. I personally think the 4.8is a better car. First, it's newer which means likely less miles and better condition. Second, I don't trust BMW to have worked out all the bugs from the first gen. I always aim for the "facelift" versions where possible hoping they've got the kinks ironed out. You also get a bunch of options not available in the 4.6is such as dynamic HID, Angel Eyes, more horsepower, upgraded Nav, and so on. #8 · Sep 22, 2010 Nav is the same, 4.8is has pneumatic suspension front+rear, which can be expensive to maintain. 4.6 is suspension is like most others 4.4i. I have a 4.6 but want to change to 4.8 if there will be a chance, I like the facelifted front. Anyway both of them are good cars if in good condition. p.s. go for the estoril Blau or imolla rot, love those colors. Just sold my 2003 4.6is and I already miss it! Robb:cry: #15 · Aug 2, 2013 I like the facelift better, that's why I got an 06 4.8iS This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread.
