So, if you didn’t know, ao3 has lots of subscription options. As long as you have an account and your email address is up to date, you can get various levels of notifications. You need to be a logged in user in order to subscribe.

Please note: don’t use a school email address because when you leave that school, that address dies and you might lose access to your account. Yahoo and AOL emails also don’t seem to work well these days, so I’d suggest a different free option than those ones.

Now to continue about subscriptions. You can subscribe in 3 different ways, depending on what notifications you want to receive.

1. Subscribe to a fic. Go to the fic and hit the subscribe button at the top of the page. You will now receive an email each time a new chapter is posted.

2. Subscribe to a series. Go to the series page by clicking on the name of the series at the top of the fic (it’s a link, just like the fic title is). At the top of the series page, hit the button to subscribe. This will notify you by email any time a new work is added to a series. You will also get emails about new chapters to any stories in that series.

3. Subscribe to an author. Click on the author’s name to go to their profile page and click the subscribe button at the top. Now you will receive an email notification every time that author posts a new work or adds a chapter to an existing work.

These emails will all contain links to take you directly to the story/chapter.
