Phantump is a ghost/grass-type Pokémon that looks like a ghost with a tree stump on its head. Introduced in Gen VI, Phantump evolves into Trevenant when traded. You must trade Phantump to trigger its evolution; there is no other way. If you don't want to trust a stranger to trade your evolved Phantump back to you, you can trade with yourself, provided you have 2 Gen VI games (either Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, or Alpha Sapphire) and 2 consoles (like the Nintendo 3DS). This wikiHow will show you how to evolve a Phantump without trading to a stranger.

  1. Step 1 Start a trade with yourself. 1 Start a trade with yourself. When your two gaming platforms are near each other, you will be offered the option to trade Pokémon.
    • You can start the trade with either character.
  2. Step 2 Trade Pokémon. 2 Trade Pokémon. You can trade your Phantump in one game as the other trades a Froakie.
    • When both players accept the trade, Phantump will evolve into Trevenant automatically.

  3. Step 3 Trade the Pokémon back. 3 Trade the Pokémon back. The other player can trade back the Trevenant and you can send back the Froakie.
