I literally spent an hour the other day hunting for the handbook to this, in an attempt to find the answer to this question!! I never did...but I removed the insert. My twins are just shy of 5 months and looked very squashed in it, I probably should have taken them out sooner! They are much happier now that it's gone. I have the same car seat. I had my baby at phn when she was 3 months and when she saw her in the car seat she told me to remove the insert then. She asked if baby gets upset when she goes in it and I said yes but only recently. She told me it’s because she’d outgrown it. My girl is long so she needed it removed that early
