Good day All I am in process of stepping over to dark side. I love diesels and the low down torque. Of course the fuel ecinomy for power is grate. I have read forum after forum and cant decide between m47 or n47. M47.....isdues Swirl flaps Cooling Turbo N47 Dreaded timing chain I believe the n47 more revined and punchier engine. But if i read about the cost of fixing above issues i would take a chance on turbo rather than timing chain. I live in Cape Town Northern Suburbs and i know its been asked any good workshops or mechanics this side. I am planning plug and play Dte chip. Too improve feul consumption of course....

N47. That is all. So few documented cases on the N47 and it only affects are certain date range of engine's that were produced.

Never had any issues with my N47 ran it till the plan KMs expired. Decent motor

2009 was the introduction of the LCI models and motors, although, there are 2008 pre-lci models with the LCI motor! Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk B

Thanks guys appreciate the response. Will look for 2009 to 2011 to fit my budget. How do you see the difference between these too motors.

Official Advertiser 2009 had the 130kw N47, from 2010 onwards the 135kw N47 was introduced, the variance on paper might not seam big, but in reality the difference is noticeable Sent from my Samsung Note 8

Just look for a 2010/2011 model. That will mean it’s the LCI (facelift) model and thus has the N47 motor in - most likely the 135kw version.

Should also be able to see the engine vesion if you run the VIN via BMWVIN.com B

Hi guys anyone shed some light Bmw 320d ...vg96....I was told this vehicle has a n47 motor even tho it is a 2008. I thought that n47 was only 2010 upwards.

Do you have any other info on the car? Pics etc? There are 2008 pre lci's with the LCI motor! My dad's previous E90 was a pre-lci body with the LCI motor. Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk B

Hi vehicle in question. I drive a 2008 x3 while back and was told it was fitted with new n47 engine. If you look at engine cover I think the n47 has triangular ahape engine cover and m47 more square. Still learning guys patients please

hey bud, the easiest was to spot the N series engine on 320/330d is you will see the newer back cover and silver writing with the rectangular(one cut corner) airbox to your left hand side (if facing the car with engine open). Please give more info like price and ,mileage and colour, M-sport or non-MSport that you are looking for cause the E90 LCi can be had for VERY good prices right now, and when we see a steal we can alert you so you find your car quicker.
