B4Dar B Hi Lads, I'm just hoping that some of you gentlemen might be able to help me out with a question I have. Unfortunately I can't seem to find a solid answer through my searching. Is it possible to visually tell the difference between an M47 and N47 engine. The car in question is a late 2007 E60 520D LCI model. All the documentation & a search on cartell suggests that it is an M47 engine but I don't consider these sources as 'concrete information'. Is there a code located somewhere on the engine or even a physical difference that can confirm it for me? Cheers  #1 · Aug 26, 2015 Hi Lads, I'm just hoping that some of you gentlemen might be able to help me out with a question I have. Look totally different Or use chassis number or reg to identify without travelling to view Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App #3 · Aug 26, 2015 Engine codes are stamped near the bottom of bmw blocks on the passenger side, if you have a look at my threads i have one with a link on how to identify bmw engines. It contains a pdf that you can store on your puter. Click my username and view threads. Apologies I can't hot link as Im on my ancient phone. #4 · Aug 27, 2015 I didn't find it but stumbled across another thread while looking for it. Just for anyone else interested, a quick and siple check is to remove the oil cap. If you can see the timing chain then you have an M47 engine. If you can't see the timing chain then it will be the N47 engine as the chain is located at the back of the engine :) 0 Reply Insert Quotes Post Reply
