I guess its more so that I dont know that how resonance frequency alone affects tone?

It's my understanding the one is brighter than the other,..just not sure which one. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

the 55hz is the classic g12h-30 tone. this is the one that celestion uses in the heritage series. try out the hw marshall cab

and you will hear them. they were desinged for the marshall 'bass" cabs, but were used by hendrix... because of the huge bottom and super tight mids. picture a V-30 mixed in with a greenback.

The 75Hz cones are going to be more focused around the upper mids and the 55Hz cones are going to sound quite a bit darker. The G12H30 75th anniversary speaker out now is a 75Hz cone.

The Greenback/V30 analogy more closely describes the 75Hz cone.

Yo Bill, Ralphie could answer this one easy and the question has piqued my interest as well. I had no idea that there were 2 kinds!!!

Great! so then the lower the frequency is bassier and lowmid heavey over all boomier sound, right? but does that mean that it has a tighter bottom end?

yeah its tight, but its still a "vitage" style speaker. so its not ultra death metal tight. its really rips though, and since it a bass speaker,as marshall called it anyway, it really has nice tight bottom. not unlike a v-30

I was real interested in getting the slant 2x12 vertical cab with these very speakers. The 4x12 which has the 100 slanted across the right corner looks great. Once I heard it was a bass speaker I backed off. I need a speaker that will brake up early like a 25. I thought since these were 30 watts that they would be great and you wouldn't not have to worry about ever blowing a speaker.

Well no, the 55Hz cone isnt actually "boomy" at all. Far from it. The 55Hz cone has been a favorite because its a little squashier, but still holds it to gether nicely. Its not a very "in your face" speaker, its nature is a little subdued. I've never really liked them...it seems that they're definitely for a different breed of guitar players :)

The reissue G12H - 75th anniversary is the 75Hz speaker

The G12H Heritage is the 55Hz speaker.

as someone said above,

best way I can describe a 55Hz G12H-30 is like a greenback mixed with a V30. Very nice tone indeed. I have 4 of them in one of my cabs and it sounds sweet :)

Very true indeed. I have 4 pre rolas in my white cab, very nice indeed and still very good for playing stuff like metal through!! I also have another cab with two G12-Ms and two Celestion blues - very sweet too.

It is surprising how a simple speaker change can give your rig a whole new lease of life :)

Are you guys REALLY serious!?!? If so, I'm gonna order some as soon as I get some cash. I love my V30s in my Mesa Recto 2x12, but I have some empty 1960As that need some love. :) I like my friend's Greenback combo, so if these are really a V30/Greenie mix, that's pretty cool.

Where would you guys suggest picking up some of the Heritage/55Hz G12H30s? I checked MF and Avatar... MF didn't have any it seemed and Avatar appeared to have just the 75th Anny ones. Any ideas?

Bear in mind the heritage speakers are twice as expensive as the standard reissues.

yeah, serious man! If you like v30s but need a slight variation then the H30 is the way to go. Oh and BTW I have realised that I am talking complete {censored}e because mine are actually 75Hz :(

don't ever believe what I write in future - ok?

I was talking about the merits of a H30 over a M25, honestly :D

I dont agree that the G12H-30 w/55 hz sounds like a mix of a greenback 25 and a Vintage 30.

The greenback 25 breaks up a lot faster than a greenback 30 and a Vintage 30 has a lot of mid range honk. Personally, I think the G12H-30 w/ 55 hz has a little smoother bottom end yet still remains clear on the top. I dont hear much difference between 55 and 75 hz besides the 55's having a "little" more bottom and the 75's having a "little" more high end. Both the 55 and 75 stay fairly clear unless they are really pushed hard by an amp.

With that said...I have 3 4x12 loaded with G12H-30's w/ 55 hz.

Hahaha, it's all good man. I need to grab me some H30s in whatever variety honesty. I don't have any Greenies either, but I'm guessing they're similar enough compared to what I already have (V30s, G12T75s, CL80s, Mesa C90/ML70, EVM) to give me a more vintage flavor.

There was a comparison here a while back linked to The Gear Page. Adam Stark compared a greenback, regular H30 and the Heritage H30. My favorite as well as many others was the standard H30. Of course, there were some who couldn't really hear a difference, so your mileage may vary.
