I have a G12M clone in right now and while I like that speaker a lot, I want something with tighter bass and less mid range punch. It's just coming off a little flubby, muddy, and fizzy on the top end. My amp is very bright so I am trying to decide between the 55hz or 75hz cone. I am looking for classic rock tone like ZZ Top, AC DC, etc... I am leaning towards the 55hz cone but was hoping for some feedback from the speaker guru's around here. The scumback H75 is my benchmark for tone clips, and I like both the 55 & 75with a slight edge to the 75 in my book. For a bright amp what would you guys recommend, G12h clone or not? coldsteal2

I believe you can get clones of the same speaker for allot less than the Heritage G12H though i paid $220 a peice for them made for a very expensive 2 12 cab, but it was worth it rocknhorse1

Do you have any opinion on which would work better in a closed back cab as a single? I don't necessarily want more bass, or less for that matter, than what I am getting from the G12M, just a better & tighter bass response, less mids, and a smother high end. I don't want it to be dark, just not piercing if that makes sense? Would an H75 Scumback be brighter than a Weber Pre Rola G12M clone? If so I would think the 55hz would be the way to go since it is supposed to have a slightly darker tone. Any opinions or experiences are greatly appreciated. rocknhorse1

It is just a bit less present in the upper mids and highs, but not dark at all. Still very clear in the highs, a big tight low end, and a really nice lower mid. If you really like the lower mid part of the Marshall "grunt", then the 55hz is the one. The G12H is a brighter speaker than the G12M, but has a tighter low. What makes the Scumbacks so nice ( to my ears) is how sweet the highs are...never piercing at all, and they get sweeter with volume. W

My amp is a Blackheart BH5 that I had modded by Twang, more to come on that, and I use it as a pedal platform primarily for my Blackstar HT-Dual. After spending some time tone tweaking I remember why I liked this speaker (Weber C1225 Pre Rola) so much to begin with; warm, spongy, and a nice vowel like tone to it. All that being said, I am still going to put a G12H clone in this amp, either a Scumback or Weber Legacy because I think that a little tighter bass response, lower mid range focus, and a little more articulate upper-mid and treble response is going to make this little low watt low dollar amp a classic rock tone machine! Now to find an amp for my C12225, but my next adventure in amplification is going to be a Phaez SIBLY with a 2x12 cab with a G12H and Alnico Blue Dog or Scumnico. mdubya

The Scumnico is a great speaker, probably my favorite...I have one of those too, that I run with the H55, or the H75. If I want a more "vintage" sound out of the JTM18, I go with the H75 and Scumnico.....very sweet speaker. You must log in or register to reply here.
