I pulled the radio and found that the serial number matches the sticker number on my radio guide. So I think it's the original radio. I bought the car used. I sent the VIN and radio Serial # to a dealer rep on vwvortex. He sent back a code. After I enter the code and press seek > I get a second of music followed by silence and SAFE mode yet again. What things can I look at? Is the fuse loose on the back of the unit again? Last night I did notice that the interior light seems to be flickering a little when I look at my pants leg, but looking at the map light, it seems fine. Could be a trick of the eye? Thanks! I will check when i go out in about an hour and post back! 2004STARWARSTDI

After entering code >For premium IV & V, press right side of Seek button for longer than 2 seconds, until audible signal is heard. For premium VI, press the upper portion of the seek button or the SCAN button for longer than 2 seconds until an audible signal is heard. MOGolf

If the connector is not fully seated on the back when you reinstalled it, you might get flaky results. SnowCub

I enter the code then hold the right side of the seek button. I ran my vag-com on it tonight and got the following: --------------------------------------------- Address 56: Radio Labels: 1J0-035-18x-56.lbl Part No: 1J0 035 180 D Component: RADIO 3CP 0001 Coding: 01403 Shop #: WSC 23322 2 Faults Found: 00855 - Connection to CD changer 49-00 - No Communications 65535 - Internal Control Module Memory Error 00-00 - - -------------------------------------- The CD changer is understandable, I took my phatbox out. The other is a mystery to me. I have only heard of 65535 in relation to defective airbags. I'm thinking of taking the radio out, reseating all the plugs on the back and the fuse. SnowCub

Turned key in ignition, radio comes on, says Safe, says 1000, says 94.5, radio's on! That makes no sense, then again, when did anything with my Golf ever make sense. Darn car is as moody as a teenager with her first period  P

Very true! Listening to a my exhaust was getting old, the sound doesn't change much during my commute. Now I have to figure out how to convince my wife that I need to hook up a Bazooka :) P

There are two 12v continuous feeds on the connector to the radio, and one is strictly for the SAFE mode. That connection may have been a problem that "fixed itself" when the radio was removed and reinstalled. Prior to the fix do you remember if your alarm would beep on activation? Sometimes if the radio is not positioned properly the alarm would not arm. Again that may be related to the 12v for the SAFE mode not being properly connected to the radio. But, I'm glad all is is order now. You must log in or register to reply here. Share: Facebook Twitter Reddit Pinterest Tumblr WhatsApp Email Link
