[report] [news]Monday 7th April 2014quotequote all Hi Guys,I have agreed to purchase a MK5 Golf GTI with a FULL VW service history. The owner (whom I trust) has supplied me with the vehicle details and also the dealer details along with the name of the chap whom he has dealt with. Unfortunately due to Data protection (I totally understand there stance on this) I am unable to get any details of the services carried out from VW until I actually have the log book to hand. Would any of you wonderful chaps be able to verify/check/provide me with some details? Thanks again,Faz

[report] [news]Monday 7th April 2014quotequote all Can the owner just send you a photo/scan of the log-book? Anybody on here releasing those details to you would also be in breach of data protection laws. In any case, I'd want the log-book to be stamped up and would prefer to see that - or are you after more in depth details as to what's been done to the car?

I was hoping somebody would be able to verify that all the service history adds up / whether anythings been missed etc.

[report] [news]Monday 7th April 2014quotequote all Are you saying vw are refusing to give you the servicing info on the car you're buying?? I find that strange as I've previously had 2 VW's and both times have phoned the servicing dealers to check VW's service records matches what the service book is saying. Both times I was straight up, said I was buying these cars depending on getting the history confirmed and nobody refused, dealers were very helpful.

[report] [news]Monday 7th April 2014quotequote all Sorry, don't want to be a typical PH cock...If the stamps are in the book, it's fair, I would have thought, to assume that the servicing has been done. If the stamp is dodgy, or the work that the stamp suggests, hasn't been done, I'd also assume that the computer records might be misleading. Of more interest to me would be the stuff that isn't recorded - like maybe a trip to the bodyshop after somebody crashed it into the back of a Landrover (which is what my ex-GF did to my GTi).

I've got all the dates etc from the seller, But before I make the journey up I wanted to confirm with the garage themselves. I may try again and mention that the purchase is defendant on this. ( I wasn't sure they'd care as it's not a sale for them)

I don't believe in just the stamps anymore unfortunately. I had previously purchased a car which had ALL of its history book stamped by a dodgy stamp (I found out afterwords as I didn't bother checking that time - hence why I wanted to be more pro active this time)Cheers,Faz

[report] [news]Monday 7th April 2014quotequote all Ring up VW UK with the reg and VIN as they should be able to help. I did the same for one of the GTIs I looked at, service book didn't have any stamps but VW were able to read out the full history over the phone. They also emailed me an official service history certificate with everything listed out.

[report] [news]Tuesday 8th April 2014quotequote all Hi all, for the benefit of the thread, it is my car that Faizan is in the process of buying.I called VW Huddersfield this morning in an attempt to give them my permission to speak to Faizan however their stance is firm, they will only discuss the car with it's current owner. This of course puts me in a rather difficult position. My relationship with the dealership goes back over a decade and I would have thought with my permission they'd be more than happy to discuss the validity of their work with a potential buyer.

Ask them for a print out and send to your seller.

[report] [news]Tuesday 8th April 2014quotequote all You don't need to go through VW Huddersfield. VW UK Head office in Milton Keynes have access to the same information through the system so should supply over the phone.

I'm in the process of seeing if they can register it and upload the service history.
