Most popular servicing questions

Get answers to commonly asked questions about servicing.

  • How can I tell when my vehicle needs a service?

If your vehicle is on a Flexible servicing regime, the service light on the instrument panel will illuminate when it’s time to get a service. For vehicles set on a Fixed Service regime, this will typically be around every 12 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.

  • I've lost my vehicle handbook / service schedule. How can I get a new one?

Please contact your local retailer who will be able to advise you about prices and order lead times. Replacement service books will be stamped 'Duplicate' and will not contain any previous service information or stamps. Please note that as of May 2017 our vehicles no longer have physical service books as all service records are now recorded digitally. Your local retailer has access to your vehicle’s service history and will print it out on request. An independent repairer can add information to the records free of charge through an online system called erWin however they can only print the information they have entered and not the entire service history.

  • How can I find out the service history of my car?

Your local retailer may be able to help if your vehicle has been serviced within the Volkswagen Network. However, they will be unable to access records if your car has been serviced outside of the Volkswagen Network. Alternatively, you can try asking the person who sold you the car.

  • What is All‑in from Volkswagen1?

Available for cars aged between three and six years old, All‑in from Volkswagen takes a range of our services and puts them under one, monthly payment to give you total peace of mind. • What oil should I use in my Volkswagen?

Volkswagen recommends Genuine Oil for all our vehicles. To find out more about our range of Genuine Oils, click here.

  • Can you tell me the engine code for my Volkswagen?

The engine code can be found on the left hand side of the vehicle's V5 certificate.

  • What happens if my car is out of warranty?

An extended warranty can be purchased once you reach the end of your term, information is available here or speak to your local retailer .

  • What is a cambelt or timing belt?

The cambelt, also commonly  known as a timing belt, is one of the most important parts of your engine. It’s a rubber belt that keeps the rotation of the crankshaft and camshaft synchronised. By doing this it makes sure your engine’s valves open and close correctly which makes sure your engine stays healthy despite the strain it’s put under when driving.

  • How often should I change my cambelt

We suggest changing your cambelt each time your vehicle reaches its recommended mileage.
