#3 26-12-2011, 02:48 PM VW recommends the Castrol for its engines, and i stick to it as if you dont it voids any warranty (if your car is new enough to have one still). Mods that won't ruin fuel consumption are a ENGINEERED SRI or CAI (Short Ram or Cold Air Intake), exhaust, and a chip tune; I recommend APR if available (i dunno if they do tunes on the 1.6) On my 2.5L inline 5 golf this would see hp gains of around 25-35hp not sure on the torque figures though, and I'm unsure of the gains you will see on the 1.6. I mean these are really all the cheap easy performance mods you can do beyond this it becomes very expensive, next step would be stage 2 tune and a new downpipe which will greatly improve your top end. Edit: Just looked at my manual VW RECOMMENDS the Castrol but any 5w40 FS oil works so pick what you want sigpic Volkswagen Golf MK5 - Dubbin' Since 2010

#5 28-12-2011, 01:18 PM If you use a boost controller, and up the boost w/out a reflash you'll get a CEL. So Reflash is a must for mods, I gained about 40-45HP w/my reflash (2.0 FSI) for about $550 The biggest gain in hp, and the best (arguably) mod you can do to a turbo VW is a reflash, also called a tune or a chip. You will gain tons of HP for very little money. I think the MK6 (the new one) Polo GTI gets 60BHP w/just the reflash. Revo is a big name in EU, I'd go for them. Theres probably one near you Welcome to REVO http://www.revotechnik.com/index.php?mod=volkswagen Revo was born from adrenaline-fuelled success in championship winning race teams.
