How are they comparing soundwise ? Which one is brighter, which one has more low end ? Both have enough clarity for downtuned chugga-chugga ?

V30 is brighter and has an upper mid spike that you will love or hate

H30 has a more low end, but will get a bit boomy when driven by an amp that pushes a lot of low end to begin with such as a 5150, Recto, Uber, or XXX. It's better matched with amps that need a bit of help to maximize the low end such as an older Marshall or a Peavey Classic. I've also never used the H30 in a closed back 4x12, only in a 2X12.

Pretty much this, though I disagree slightly (and I stress slightly) about the boomy lowend on the G12-H30. It can get a little out of control, especially with an amp like a rectifier, but a little EQing can solve the bulk of the problems easily and quickly.

G12h30 has a nice low end.. I would never consider it boomy..

G12h30-More lows and highs

Vintage 30- More mids and grit..

I use a 1960a 4x12 loaded with H30's powered by a Silver Jubilee (2550) and modded 1987x running KT66's.

The H30's can get very dark sounding and, I find, loose some definition. I have tried V30's and find them to be more defined and like ENdtime says more grit but you have to push them.

Ideally I'd like to replace two of the H30's with V30's.

Make love not war.

Pair these 2 darling speakers for sweet sweet love and harmony and be rewarded with tone of the gods, do not pit them against one another.

Yes, mix them. They intersect perfectly. I wonder about mixing the 55hz though. The 75 and 55 sound different.

G12H30 sounds awesome and full. Very warm and nice smooth breakup when pushed.

V30 sounds awful and piercing. I hate it.

the g12h30 is right between the v30 and greenback

very underrated speaker

it has the thick middy lead tone of the greenback, but more aggressive, like the V30

This is the second time I've heard this today and I don't quite agree with it. The V-30 nor the Greenback have the low end of the G12H. As far as Frequency, the V-30 is high mid oriented, the G12H has extended highs and lows and the Greenback is more flat in respect to either. Also, I believe the vintage 30 is based on the Alnico Blue. I'd say the greenback and G12H are closer to each other than the v-30 because of cones and power handling.

This is the best answer so far.

V30 - lots of mids, upper midrange spike, not super extended treble though. This mid spike is often said to be treble, which it is not. The great thing about a V30 is you can just pummel it with volume and it doesn't flatten out...it just keeps going. Many others speakers fall apart and start compressing on themselves. This is a 60 watt speaker.

G12H30 - More lows and extended highs than the V30. Fuller bass, with more high end treble, when comparing it to a V30 it will seem some what scooped. You need to be careful with bright amps and overdrive with this speaker as it has a tendency to sound a bit buzzy. Turn off the bright switch or dial back teh treble and everything should be fine. This is a 30 watt speaker.

Where these speakers excel is putting one of each in a 2x12, this a "Tone of Gods" recipe.
